Console Cluster
« on: March 05, 2013, 03:48:15 PM »
If the console cluster stops working can it make the radio stop working to? Everything is wired on the back of the radio correctly, wasn't sure if the console had any sort of power to it.

I wuld think its more likely that whatever caused the cluster to go out also caused the radio to not work. Have you checked all the fuses. What year is  it I can try to get the fuse chart for you. I have  wiring diagrams too somewhere.

Check each fuse with an ohm meter or just swap them. It could look fine even though it's junk

My car is a 1978 and I checked the fuse underneath the steering column so its defiantly not that. I do have a chiltons automotive manuel not sure if it would have a diagram in there. I guess I should look shouldn't I!? Haha

Did you check all of them or just one? It could be something else like a fusible link but I doubt it. If you dont have the wiring diagram let me know I can send you a copy, or look through it even and tell you what to look for.

I know they dont :( I think Haynes manuals have them I used to use an old Thunderbird Haynes to figure out things in my Pinto because someone gave me that book.

Now I have a Mitchel DVD it has all kinds of wiring diagrams. Theyre in PDF format so youll need to use Foxit reader or adobe reader. Send me a PM with your email address and I ill send it to you.

They give me a headache looking at them for too long but if you have trouble I can help find out exactly what fuse you need to check and what wires.

If you can use a small voltmeter it cant be too hard to figure out exactly why voltage isnt getting there. Sometimes its corroded or dirty contacts on t he fuseholder too so it could be the fuse for that is fine and still you wont get voltage to the circuit you want. With a voltmeter you can find out exactly whats going on by just following the right steps, following the voltage from one place all the way through step by step to see where its not and where it is. If you find voltage on one side of the fuse but not on the other side its open, but if youre testing at the fuse socket instead of right on the fuse itself then it could be being lost between  the fuse and the socket thats what happened o me keeping my lights from coming on.

I sent you the wiring diagram and a picture of the fusebox and the two fuses you should check. Dont forget to check for voltage at the fuse connector itself as well in case its poor contacts between the fuse itself and the connector. But check the fuses first pull them out and tet them with an ohm metr or continuity tester. Be careful to never use your meter on ohms or continuity in the car unless youre sure there is no voltage there first.
