Doing the "while I am at it" I am thinking about replacing the coil springs on my 79. Best of my knowledge it currently has the original springs. I'm already replacing the control arms with Speedway tubular and 2 inch drop spindles. And I will be doing the Speedway 11 inch disk brake conversion (not that that should matter to this).
It will be a 2.3L with a/c. For the foreseeable future anyway.
So my main goal is good handling for a Pinto. I know I can't get Vette handling or anything crazy. ::)
So far all I have found are these stock Moog replacements

I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions or if you have used these and like them?
For the price it is pretty much a no brainer (which is good for me :o), but I'd just rather not have to change them once they are installed if there is a better choice. I'm able to splurge on the best right now, so price isn't a real concern.

Or, should I just go with a bolt on coil over kit from Speedway? Would have to use two paychecks worth of overtime but if it is a big improvement it would probably be worth it.

I think Heidt sells standard length Pinto front springs. I used standard length with my 2" dropped spindle and the ride height is nice. I have a pair that I cut for a 2" drop, but the ride height was too low (for me) with the dropped spindles. Those springs set on a shelf somewhere in my shop now, waiting for someone brave enough to drive a slammed Pinto (not me).

I ended up buying Moog stock replacement springs from Rock Auto I think.
But, now I am putting a 351W in instead of a 2.3l.
Not sure what I will end up doing now. Haven't thought that far ahead, obviously. Maybe Mustang II V8 coils. Just found that Rock Auto sells MII V8 with AC Moogs for about the same price I paid for the 4cyl ones. Problem solved, I hope.

Alden America has bolt in coilovers to replace the original spring/ shock combo. Changing springs would so much easier. I run them on my MGTD replica. Basically a re-bodied Pinto. Just stuffed a 302 crate motor in it. Running 550# springs.

I put Mll with AC springs in my white 72. Had to cut them down & could have cut more.
I'll see what it looks like after the new wheels & tires are on it.
You may want the lighter Mll springs......

Thanks. For the price I am going to try both. Now the question is do I use the two inch drop spindles or stock height? I have new ones for both.
Will need to do some work once I get the engine in.

I raised mine 2" after I bought it.
Before, it had no where near enough ground clearance for Headers, mufflers etc.

yeah, that worries me. When I was doing a 4cyl that wasn't a worry, but now.....

I wound up using Wilwood's 2"-drop front spindles on the Cosworth Pinto. I had a hard time finding (or couldn't find) adapters for anything other than Granada, etc., calipers. I wanted to use Wilwood's Dynalite/Dynapro calipers to match the rear brakes. The Wilwood spindles use a GM design for caliper mounting, are reversible, and keep all the stock Ford geometry. A simple set of adapters allowed me to use the Dynapro calipers. Maybe some company is making adapters for other calipers now, but back when I did this job, I found those Wilwood spindles to be a Godsend. Check 'em out, especially if you're getting ready to buy 2"-drop spindles anyway.

Thanks. I already have the two inch drop spindles and the stock height. I will be using the Speedway 11inch 5 lug disk brakes.
Probably won't be able to use the two inch drop on this car with a 351W. Just going to have to wait until the engine is in to see.
