Clutch kit for 73 1.6 4spd?
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:15:13 AM »
Happy New Year Everyone! I am having a tough time finding a clutch kit, every site I hit wont show a 1.6 engine, only shows 2.0 and up. Local tranny experts told me his new 2012 book shows a 8 1/2 in disc with a 1 1/16in spine and says all years with a 4 Banger? Does anyone know of a place where I can find one. I don't want to pull the tranny until I find one as I still drive the car. (the truck sux too much gas) any input would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks, I found out it was 7 1/2 yesterday, Auto parts places dont show it, only the ones for the 2.0 and up. 1 local shop says they are discontinued but they can redo mine, but no idea where to get a pressure plate. I am searching for a place to get a complete kit, or more specs on what i need, manufactures part #s ect.

The links below advertise 1600 clutches but they are for Formula Ford racing or British cars.  Suggest contacting them to see if they are useable in a Pinto, maybe you will get lucky (except for price).  Have you tried Fred Morgan here on FordPinto.com for a used one?  Good luck with the search.

I did a little research and ran across an earlier post from 2008 on this same issue. Looks like they went to Racer Walsh and was able to get the disc.  http://www.fordpinto.com/index.php?topic=9633.msg60061#msg60061

Thanks for the info, Sorry it took so long to get back on here its been a crazy winter but i think i got time to start working on the car again. I still need to figure out if its the British or German Tranny. I had found out the FOG has a 4 bolt top plate and the FOG has a 10 bolt? Guess i will go out and figure it out today. Thanks for all the links and I will check with Fred b4 I buy anything.
