Clutch Cable Connection
« on: October 28, 2016, 10:23:19 AM »
I was asked in a PM about adding a clutch cable to a previous Automatic car. I couldn't figure out how to send a picture in a PM so I'm making a post here.

Yes, there is a "U" shaped piece with a hole in the bottom of the "U" for the cable end and a pin that holds it to the pedal.  Hope this helps.

BTW, I used what I believe was a '79 cable with early (71-73) pedals. Does anyone have reason to contradict that. I just want to make sure I'm giving accurate advice.  Thanks.

Get a strap of metal. Drill  holes the pin size, equal distance near both ends. With an angle grinder (thin blade) or Dremel cut a slot from one of the holes to slightly past the center point. Bend at the mid point around  bolt roughly the size of the end piece affixed to the cable being careful to get the holes to align and at the end. Continue to collapse until roughly the size of the pedal stem width. A piece of wood or metal works to control the amount of collapse. A vise and a hammer should be all you need for that portion. Not being an official Ford part one should only do at their own risk.

But, yea, if you can find it in a hardware store first... . I wouldn't count on that though. All I have in my "bedroom community" is big box stores that never have what I need. If you are more in a farm/industrial area you may have a better chance.  Caveman Engineering - Drawing protected by International Copyrights and Patents   ;D
