Title: cam swap
Post by: krazi on December 30, 2015, 09:03:35 PM
I installed an isky race cam last summer. dropped the engine and trans in and hooked everything up, and it started on the first try. drove it for a few weeks, took it out on the highway to open it up, and noticed a trail of smoke following me at around 2500 rpm. got home with it, and noticed oil dripping off the glass-packs. did I miss something? I know I torqued the heads properly, and pretty sure I cleaned the block and heads. maybe a ring failed. maybe the valve guides failed. maybe I should have used different valve springs. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere and oil is dripping on the exhaust, that's why you're seeing smoke????..

Yeah, if you have oil ON the muffler it is an external leak. Could be something as simple as a valve cover gasket. Worst case cracked block, but very unlikely unless you are running nitrous or pushing several hundred horses.
Clean the engine and monitor for a leak.

oil in the muffler. when it warms up again, im going to pull the heads and try to find out what I did wrong.

Which isky stick are you using, I am looking at a 465 for my 72 with a 2.0 and a 4 speed.
