You already have a desirable 8" rear, no need to improve un less you want to have a lot of power.

Here is a link that discusses the Versailles rear end for the early Mustang guys that you may find interesting. You MAY or may not need to have it narrowed. I don't know of any cheap options for putting a 9 inch under a pinto but many have done the conversion. The max torque an 8 inch will take (with slicks) is about 350 ft lbs. If you are running street tires only, an 8 inch will hold up for a long long time (read lots of tire smoke). I bought an 8 inch/9 inch large flange rear disc conversion on E-bay for $299. Pintos/Mustang II 8 inchers are small flange so you will need to modify the supplied plate some. No matter which rear you go with, the Torsen type geared Posi is the way to go. There is no better, period.

Do we know what breaks first when one exceeds that?  I'm already making 350 tq at the wheels on motor, and I sure would like to have it hook some day...
