Well, it seams that every time I log in here, I have another question, pretty soon I should know a few answers.

I just finished over hauling a pair of tail light housing/lenses for my '72 coupe Pro street'er, (the Wal-Mart "chrome" paint works well and is very reflective) How do I find the twist in bulb holders? I need both the brake turn, tail holder and the backup holder. Anybody have a lead, or a part number, or even a smart azz remark?

Fortunately the little screw clips, that holds the backer to the lens, are easy to make, as most of mine were rotted away. (we only do this 'cause it's FUN, right.)

IIRC, the bulbs are 1157?
So Google 1157 bulb socket. Or whatever the bulb number is.

Hi Russ,
As you may have guessed, I'm the FNG here,

 I exhausted all the searches my google foo could manage. There are about 35 different 1157 sockets on the market, all slightly different. I guess my question should have been "can anybody post up a couple of pictures of the business end of the 2 tail light bulb holders in your Pinto"

A picture or two of the housing would go a long way towards helping me find the correct socket/holder. My housings appear to accept the "twist lock" I/4 turn style, I believe the spring brass tab, that rides against the metal housing is the ground tab. I anticipation of future problems, (99% of lighting problems are ground related) I will likely run a ground wire from a sheetmetal screw in the stamped metal housing to a mounting stud, or a good body ground stud. I learned this habit from many years of building/ maintaining 'glass bodied hotrods/ racecars.

If you can help in this way, it would be much appreciated.

Are you needing sockets for the 2 filament brake turn signal lamps or the single filament running and backup lights.

I would suspect that just about any socket designed for an 1157 bulbe would work providing the contacts are positioned properly and you can find a way to secure them in the tail light assembly.

You can check the dorman number other places.

Also just to insure good contact, I would  solder a separate round wire to the metal barrel

WOW troops, when it rains, it pours. My google foo seems a bit weak just now, but with all the help I'm getting here, it's just a matter of time.
There is not much about my pinto that is even remotely stock, or FOMOCO, except the body panels, so I wanted to find as many small parts with the blue oval logo, as I can. (OK, within reason... (Hey, I ended up with 2 sets of quarter glass to get some cherry mounting rubber)

The pictures were the most help, 'cause I now have a visual to go by. The molded in part numbers on the lenses led me to pictures of other parts, that, while no longer available, were easily fabricated. I'll keep looking for a FOMOCO part number with a picture, but if push comes to shove, any of the sockets you all suggested will do just fine, and I appreciate the time you all took to help. (I have some help coming tomorrow to drop in the fit up block and trans. Now to turn some scrap tubing and plate into motor mounts and tranny brackets.)

If you want to stay with a ford part, I assume that sockets from just about any ford product.l from the period would work.

Maybe someone here who is parting out a car might have the oem sockets, check the classifieds.

I can send of my front turn signal sockets if you need them since they are easy access..

But good luck.

Also good luck with the engine mounting.

Too bad your using a sluggish GM engine..
