Need help with alternator......
« on: May 10, 2013, 12:39:29 AM »
Ok so I have replaced the alternator and regulator numerous times, but in the end I always have voltage issues. I wanna just do the 3 wire swap and was wondering what ford cars came with the 3 wire that will fit on my 2.3. Any body know?

EDIT: If anybody needs info on this check here, this answered all my questions. http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55169

Why not just swap in a 1-wire alternator & be done with it. I have one for all 3 of my Pintos. You get higher amperage, steady output & no regulator to fail.

I just finished the 3 wire swap. It's internally regulated. Also my alternator light still works. It's also 130 amps. I had to notch my lower alternator bracket so it would fit but that was easy with my grinder.  The gm 1 wires are cool but there's pros and cons with them.

I have 2 Ford 100 amp 1-wires. One is a black Summit version & the other is a polished Tuff Stuff.

Ford ran an external voltage reg up into the 80's and then a serp belt. On my 390 and the pinto motor I'm running a GM 10si, almost a bolt in.
