I need to get to the brake light switch on my '73 4 speed wagon. I got down there with a flashlight, but couldn't even see it. I'm 6' 240, and simply don't fit in there. I considered removing the drivers seat and steering wheel to give me more room. I also considered dropping the steering column. Anyone have any ideas about what is the best way for someone my size to get under there and get to that switch? Would appreciate any help, as the car is not safe to drive without brake lights. Thanks

FORD PINTO 101 Jack up car! Remove 4 nuts from seat hold down bolts! Let jack down! Open door and remove seat! Lay down on your back in the car and remove and replace switch! Do all the above in reverse to put car back on the road. Even a VEGA owner could do it with some FORD tools. Send me all the $$ you find under the seat.

LOL Been there, done that. The car in question is a '74 Runabout, so I'm not sure if it's the same setup. I'm not so tall, but I'm no Skinny Minnie. It was quite uncomfortable, but I was able to replace it. The irritating part is that the switch wasn't the issue!

Haha, I had the same problem. Was a complete pain in the butt to try and replace my brake light switch, then it turns out that wasn't the problem. Still don't have working brake lights.

Clean your grounds and area around where the bulb sets into the metal plug .Some of the fingers might not contact the light housing IE the ground.
