Strut rod bushings for 72
« on: June 17, 2014, 10:17:20 AM »
Just reading the instructions.. .

K8196

Says the steel plate/cup on the back - the cupped part faces away from the rubber bushing.

On all my others / originals , they face towards the rubber.

Anyone know why the new ones (Car Quest) have them backwards to factory ?

Raised numbers on all four rubber parts 8415.

Maybe the wrong ones ?

I've seen them both ways, but I always put the cup side toward the bushing when replacing them. Worked for me.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Expand the pic to see the stamped print on the steels, one goes one way, the other flips. Front side steel is cupped to the rubber, back is cupped away from it. You cup the front since the biggest impacts come from that side. It holds the rubber together better to avoid splitting it. The back being flipped allows for the full working distance of the rubber before metal to metal hits since the biggest force there will be springback from impacting the front rubber and the resultant rebound.

Those ones described as "High Performance" Yet I'm not fussy on the design.

I've found OEM ones......now I have to decide on which ones to use.

Standard stock replacement part by the 'K' prefix, just expensive because Moog, who makes great parts. The one year warranty parts from China that only last 6 months have totally forced them to raise prices on the much better parts to be able to afford say lifetime warranty. That is hard on suspension part companies because of all the people who severely abuse their stuff to demand new part after new part. I saw people tear up suspension parts in 3-4 weeks commonly and back asking for more, maybe 4 times a year doing that. Even best of the best parts. Some drivers are utter butchers especially if 4WD.
