Hello
Has anyone used a body cart?
I was thinking of 2 engine stands attached with square stock to the bumper mounts. ( saw it done online) I think the bumper mounts will hold the car.
Any thoughts?
Will it work like a rotisserie?
A commercial cart is about 500 and I have the engine stands already. let me know what you think.

Engine stands would lack stability. You need the base to be about 4 feet wide & both ends should be tied together so they dont spread apart. There is also a balance point on the car so it rotates easily.
The stripped body is still going to weigh close to 800 pounds or so & you really don't want that sucker coming down on you while you're working. If you hunt for scrap steel in scrap yards or craigslist & are decent with a torch & welder you could put a solid one together for 500 bucks or less that you could probably sell for a profit when you're finished using it.
Just look at rotisserie pics on Google & build it.

I built one of these for my 70 Pontiac Lemans. If you can work with wood it is pretty easy and also not too expensive. Worked great for the Lemans.

There are ways to make it rollable. Easiest would probably be to put a couple/three furniture moving dollies from Tractor Supply or Home Depot under the body when it is in the "normal" position.

I always over-engineer everything & I always assumed a rotisserie needed more stability but a whole lot of people on that site proved me wrong. The only downside to the wood idea is the room needed to roll the car. I only have a single bay to work in so mine needs to rotate in one spot.
Killer idea though if you have the room to use it.

You could always do like the one guy on that site, kailuz or whatever his name was. Have it rollable, move it outside to tilt it, and move it back in.
You can move the car tilted. I needed to get my body out of the garage, so I took a tow chain, looped it around the piece that attached to the firewall, and pulled it out with my Explorer. Without wheels on the tilter. No problems whatsoever.
Depending on how you do the support, it really doesn't have to take much room to roll it. I am also in the overengineerin g side of things, I could have made mine much simpler.

I don't know how much the Pinto weighs stripped. Never weighed mine when I had it stripped. But people are using these things on fox body mustangs so I doubt there is a real issue. Those have to be close to a Pinto in weight.
But I would take the seat out anyway, whether you end up doing this or a real rotissorie. Just to keep the center of balance if for no other reason.

How many people did you need to roll the car?

4 1/2 people and yes I will take a rolled picture next time I thought I had but it started pouring rain and I had to get it back inside. I will post it as soon as I get it.

Now how cool is that.. Who would of figured. I've been all over the garage forum and have not seen the drawings for the tilter.. Could you possible send me the dimensions and the material list?

This was a link from russosborne
I went through all the pictures there and got the dimensions and then just went to it i used 2x6 everywhere and mostly 4, 5 and 6 inch carriage bolts and nuts and bolts.
I free handed the arc on the plywood and just bolted it all together I added the uprights and feet that stand on the ground instead of a board through the inside.

I too have 2 engine hoist but my idea is I beam down center with hoist support side to side to rotate car for undercoating. Keith is right you need more support. Fred :)

neat idea. Looks a bit weak on the plywood side though, maybe the pics don't show all there is... neaters though!!
