audio system
« on: July 31, 2007, 02:33:12 PM »
I have a 1975 pinto and I am looking to put a head unit and two speakers in it. It didnt come with a radio from the factory and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas such as how to wire it and where to mount the speakers. Also how do I power it.

First off, if you are going to install a Din style unit then I would recommend you find a metal radio bezel instead of the normal plastic ones that were used.  Second, I believe all cars were wired for a radio from the factory.  I think the pigtail should be hanging near the radio area under the dash.  Cookieboy installed a speaker under the dash on his 73.  Do a search and you should be able to find the thread.  The other option is the kick panel or the doors which I really do not recommend unless you want to hack the car up. Now I believe the cars that came with the AM/FM stereo's had the optional door speakers installed from the factory.  The doors and door panels were cut for the speakers then a plastic grill, matching the color of the interior, blended everything together.  I posted what they look like in one of Cookieboy's thread as my 79 wagon came with factory door speakers.  I hope this helps you.  Good luck!  BTW, I have a couple metal bezels if you are interested.

I know my 80 wagon was ordered Radio Delete, so I took the piece of Cardboard under the dash out and used that as a template to make a piece of Press Board (the type of Press Board for professinal stero installations) and then I bored out Two holes for 2½" Alpine Round speakers. That takes care of my Front speakers. For my rear I just mounted 2 6x9 boxes on the metal that's on hinges for my Seat back. That way when I have my Back Seats down they're facing the front and when I have my Back Seat up they face up.
I also am looking for a metal radio bezel, so Tigger how much for one with shipping to 44119 Cleveland, Ohio?

No that is not the plug.  If you remove the black filler piece where the radio goes you will probably see it.  You are looking for a two prong plug.  One wire is for the radio the other is for the backlight when the headlighs are on.

What type of radio are you going to install?  Factory or Din?  If it is a Din style, then I can help you as all the metal bezels I currently have are modified in some mannor but still very usable for a Din conversion.  Let me know....

I am asking $10 plus shipping for the metal bezels
