I would really like to woodgrain the side of my 78 bobcat, but its going to look silly with woodgrain vinyl without trim.
anyone know of a source or it, or an alternative?
open to ideas and willing to think outside the box on this one

If I were rich, I had the idea of painting the woodgrain on and airbrushing the trim around it. It would probably cost more than you could sell a restored car for, though. lol
My trim was MIA when I got my car, as well.

Why did you say if you were rich? painting the woodgrain and trim would be cheaper than vinyl. I am actually toying with that idea, it's just a LOT of work, and a LOT of things that could go wrong. Not to mention the nightmares of touch up when it becomes necessary.
I saw a roadmaster that that had no actual trim, instead they used a different colored woodgrain vinyl and made the trim out of that. It looked great from a distance, but up close there was something "weird" about it. The trim not sticking out just looked "odd" . I'm also worried that painting on the "trim" would have the same overall effect

I'd love to see someone do a Squire in real wood just like a woody in the day.

I wouldn't attempt it myself, and I'm sure that someone that had the skills to make it look awesome would charge a pretty penny to do it.
I'm leaning more towards just a simple monotone paint job, or possibly 2-tone, and not bothering with the trim. :)

Hydro-dipping is probably the most cost effective way to achieve the wood grain effect. There are many patterns to choose from...... This will be my option when the time comes this summer.

Its one of those kind of deals where I know that I am capable of doing it. I just don't trust myself to get it right the first time and don't know if I want to risk having to do it all over.
monotone might be the best bet

Two tone? How you doing a two tone on the car? Will paint mine in a month or two.

Pinto5.0, someone did just that- put real wood on a Squire. At the Carlisle show in 2011 there was a white '72 or '73 that had real wood. She was beautiful! Alas, I failed to get pictures of her! I'm so mad! >:(

Pinto5.0, someone did just that- put real wood on a Squire. At the Carlisle show in 2011 there was a white '72 or '73 that had real wood. She was beautiful! Alas, I failed to get pictures of her! I'm so mad! >:(
I'm sure it will pop up again. That's a Squire I could own.

That's really nice. Now, if I had a blue Pinto with the squire that would be awesome. I don't think brown would cut the cake on mine. But that is one wicked looking color combination on a squire!

that would probably look good with a pinstripe where the moulding would be.
