Here in Missouri I can get historic plates for my car, considered a permanent registration. Limited to 1000 milse a year for `personal` use, unlimited for going to events or within 100 miles for repairs.
Of course I could see taking it much farther to find someone who knows what theyre doing on these cars.
My main 2 questions are
1. Can I get it registered normally again later at some point?
2. what is the penalty for going over that 1000 miles?
Of course I have more questions such as what qualifies as an `event. If I wanted to drive it out of town couldnt I get an `event` set up?

I have only heard that it was classic car insurance that placed restrictions on your driving. Local
car shows, show in shines, are weekly and national events are normally more than a 1000 miles. So I can't see how a state can restrict your driving.

Michigan limits vehicle use for Historic and "year of manufacture" plates.
That is why I won't use them. I drive my car.
From the Michigan Secretary of State:
"A vehicle registered with a regular historic plate or authentic historic plate cannot be used for general transportation . The vehicle can only used for participating in historical club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, car shows, swap meets, and similar uses."

In Missouri its 1000 miles a year for personal use, to and from events, and within 100 miles for servicing or repair.
Personally like I said I can see driving further to et someone to work on my Pinto.
I found out iits $100 or $200 fine if you go over that 1000 miles. Dont know about ever being abler to change it back or not yett.

hi I am in ca. and have historical plates.no millage limits use as club/ parade/ car show/ car use.i don't use as a daliey driver but have no problems driving it anywhere.reall y you can always say your on your way to a club meeting.i have haggety insurance better deal than what I had on reg ins.and of course no more smog checks on the car. chris

Basically in Missouri if you have historical plates you can drive 1000 miles to do whatever you want and shows and to get the car worked on don't count against that. You also never have to get the car inspected ever again and never have to renew the plates.
Ive seen people drive there historical cars almost everyday and never even get looked at twice unless doing something stupid. As for going back to regular plates im sure you would just have to turn in your historical plates and then get your car reinspected and buy regular plates if your so inclined to do so.
