another muffler question
« on: April 02, 2016, 08:18:45 PM »
hey all, any recommendation s for a muffler for the 2.3 ?   I am looking for something deep, mellow and not too loud.  Certainly not the megaphone and raspy sounding cans the rice burners use.  how does a flowmaster sound on a pinto?

2 chamber Flowmaster sounds good although might be 2 loud for daily driver.  Straight through designs are to buzzy for me as engines likes 3k rpm.  That seems when exhaust goes straight through.  Imho.

thanks for the input Robert, I have a straight thru but never put it on the car ...was afraid it might be a bit loud or buzzy with the 4.11 rear end at speed.  I will be checking with the muffler shop to see what they recommend.

I HATE the chambered Flowmasters.  I have the 50 series, three chamber on my 318 Valiant and it is a sonic warfare device between 1,900 and 2,600 RPM. The resonance is so intense it affects me more than annoying, it disrupts my ability to function (normal).  I have a Turbo 2.3 in my Pinto, there I have a Dynomax that was a replacement in the T-Bird Turbo Coupe donor car. Pretty quiet muffler. Sorry, don't know the model number but I'm not a big spender so I assume it was a general, universal part. Here is a picture of the box..., and my daughter. She's 22 now. So is the muffler.  :)

Wow that's strange, I had the Delta 50 series 3 chambers on my dually and it didn't matter what rpm it was running at, you could just about carry a conversation whispering, and when you got on it just had a nice tone to it not very loud at all... BTW, very cute kid. 8)

looks like the Dynomax works well on small kids, too!!  Really quietens them down!!
Dynomax is still around and i see they have several models of mufllers and is more in my price range. thanks
