alternator amp

looking into a mini alternator so my hand can get around the turbo better, so if i do get one, what amp should i get?

ecu
electric fan 16"
and a under dash ac unit in future
and the obvious stuff like lights and wipers and one speaker radio

If playing with any garbage aftermarket fans not much needed but if you go to a truly dependable dedicated cooling fan like OEM late model stuff then 100+ and no less. The factory type fans pull a much bigger chunk of power than the flimsy aftermarket ones do. They by themselves can demand 100 amp momentarily at fan startup.

flimmsy cheap fan is what i have, thats rediculous, no wonder my lights dim on my taurus when the fans kick on

Yup, but that taurus fan will probably last longer than any 5 of the aftermarket ones. And pass a h-ll of a lot more air.

Look at the ratings carefully. Many are max amps at much higher than idle speed.

What 100 amp alternator will fit a 2.3 Pinto with out having to make a new mount? Does anyone on here have a 100 amp alternator on their Pinto?

I'm afraid if I had enough electrical load for a 100 amp alternator it would stall the engine. ;D

Exactly. Just went through a problem solving exercise on the Focus when it started trying to do that, the stock alt is 130 amp. Every time the low fans kick on the idle dropped like a rock even though the IAC was working fine. Sometimes then the idle would sort of spit and sputter and try to die. Working fine now.

i hope i dont need a 130, i dont feel like i should need that much rediculus amp, but then again, i would feel stupid if it went up in my face and the 100 amp wouldnt cut it, btw, i forgot to add my electric auxillary water pump to that list of electrical components, and the fact all my dash lights and guages are led

auxilary water pump is 16 amp by its self and my fan says 13 amp, 10 amp for when in high beam, my radio draws 6 amp, turn signals and brake lamps i have no clue, this was my thaught proccess, im still going to get the 130 or about that size to be on the safe side, but what am my not adding in in the math for picking a alternator so i know how to guess better in the future

LEDs draw much LESS power. Any rear window defroster is a power hog. An alt that size can drag down idle speeds as well when it goes full blast, why all the cars now have PCM controlled softstart charging.

A PCM controlled alt no way will work as a standalone, but some 6Gs can be converted one way or the other based on what regulator you use. There are complete control regulators and PWM controlled ones for computer control. Regulators are color coded as to which is which.
