Oval port intake manifold on Dport head
« on: March 21, 2018, 07:53:22 PM »
Hi, I just installed a 87', 2.3 into my 74 Runabout, this new motor has a D port head that I put a stock oval poert intake manifold on with a 5200 carburator.  It will not start, but does try to run.  I think the oval intake is not fitting the D port haed, and the fuel is pooling up in the intake.  One thing that is not right is the carb does not have a working choke, but the previous engine never had a a starting issue. Has anyone had this problem?  Looking for suggestions.

Thanks in advance-Dennis

I ran an oval Offy intake on a D port head for a couple of years before changing the head. I had no issues with the way it ran. It just made sense to match the port styles.
