Can anyone please help me with pics or a how to? Just got a 79 pinto wagon barn find with 39000 miles and a 2.8 automatic. The starter needs replaced, and I can't seem to find a way to get it out now that the bolts are removed? Do I need to lift the entire engine? Any help GREATLY appreciated... Everything in car is bone stock.
Thanx,
Rick

You need to unbolt the steering rack and pull it out of the way.

THANK YOU!!!!!

no need to disconnect the powersteering line or tie rods. Those can stay connected and rack can just swing forward and down.

Yep, just pull those 2 bolts. I tried doing my starter in a driveway - wasn't going to happen. Once the rack is out, you can use a long extension and have perfect access to all 3 bolts and the starter will come out straight towards the front.

Use a good impact wrench on theose rack bolts - they are held on with like 100ft/lbs of torque + rust...

Spray them with some PB Blaster first and let it soak. I'm pretty sure I used a pipe on a 3/4" drive ratchet to get mine off.
