I got a bit of a problem here. Neither me nor my mechanic have ever worked with a Pinto before, now we realized that the steering clumn seems to be set off to the left.
We don't know if it might be supposed to be like that or if it needs fixing.
The steering works well, just a bit harder to turn the wheel but I guess that's normal for a no-servo car.
So, if you look through the windshield into the drivers area from above, the steering column is a bit set off to the door (left, right, whatever^^)
Any ideas or info that could help me?
Thanks, Zouz

my 80 is that way as well .. it`s quite noticeable ,, i dont notice it on my 73 ..i think there is a tiny bit of slack in the adjustment ...
-
Hmmm interesting, I'll have to check mine don't notice anything either..
-
both my 73 and 75 are that way too....
-
it's normal, don't worry. Ford must have built them that way for space reasons. Never saw a Pinto or Bobcat any other way.
-
Yep took a look at mine and it's off to the left too and looking at it closer I can see why, if it were straight when sitting in the seat the wheel would be off to the right instead of in front of you, that would be irritating as heck.
-
Well, I never noticed mine either until it was mentioned, sitting in the seat you won't notice it.
-
I know this is redundant, but my 79's steering column is also not centered :-)
-
They're probably all like that.
-
They all angle a little to the drivers side. Mustang II's do also.
-
Look closer at other model/brand cars, you can often see it in them as well once you start paying attention.
-
whoo, I thought I had to go into repairing/replacing the steering column as well haha
thanks for all the answers, onto the next problem ;)

ya my 75 hatchback is way more to the left then my 78 wagon so maybe they tried to fix it or just depended on which installer put it in that year!! lol
have tried to make my 75 to be more centered but no luck the adjustments are not that much!!
good luck!!

My 76 and 79 were both like that. My 74 is too, but it is even moreso offset than the others were. I have heard from others that there is a bracket in there that will push it off further to one side than normal if it is installed backwards, so thats something to look at if it looks off more than others do.
