Title: 74 cowl-welded on or bolt on?
Post by: russosborne on July 06, 2014, 10:34:23 PM
did Ford go back to welding the cowls on during this time? they had welded them on the original Mustangs, but at least on the 69 and up they went to bolt on's. Would like to take the cowl off to clean and paint underneath, there is surface rust there. But I can't if they are welded.

Thanks,
Russ

Yeah, I was pretty sure. I looked at it earlier, was hoping maybe I was overlooking something.  :(

Thanks,
Russ

I know! I used to be involved in vintage Mustangs. Ford had gone to bolt on in 1969 for them, I was hoping that they had learned their lesson from that. Guess not.  >:(
Thanks,
Russ

I just cut the cowl off my 73 last week for rust repair.

I hated the idea but had a lot of swiss cheese with no way to get in there & fix it right. The car was nearly rust free except this area so it's worth doing.
