Title: 73 V8 front end questions
Post by: MightExplode on July 07, 2018, 05:03:50 PM
Hello everyone I just joined here and had some quick questions on 73 suspension parts that will be used on a V8 swapped car. The car is from Illinois it was my father's first car and the car sat for about 15 years and I'm looking at updating the front end one coil spring is broke and the suspension is soft with the V8 in there. Any help is greatly appreciated I have looked through here and it seems like 71-73 are nightmares. Thanks

The 71-73 are the older design.  Thereafter the Pinto and Mustang II shared similar. I believe the springs are similar to all years and the Mustang II V-8 (or V-6) springs might work. Hopefully someone will confirm.

The rotors for the 71-73 are expensive (and not as good I've heard) as the later cars.  I believe there is a mix/match with 74-up rotors and GM Metric calipers to the older cars. To confound things even more the '73 Pinto's had a one year only steering rack!

Having done a '73 Turbo Swap I think I would have now bought a 74-75 car and just done the bumper body swap to make it look 71-73.

When I did some looking from what I gathered the mustang 2 would work if it was a 74 and up

Mustang ll springs work. However they need to be cut down.
I'd have to look up what ones I used & how much.....depen ds on engine weight.
