72 Runabout can I install motor/trans as one?
« on: May 02, 2016, 10:22:37 AM »
Hi,    I have a 72' Runabout with the 1.6 and FOG transmission.  I bought it with the trans already removed, I have since pulled the motor and would like to install both together if possible.  Looks too tight though.  Is this doable?  Thanks for any info.

I do it all the time with a 2.3 / fog, which is bigger than a 1600. Leave the front end stock without any jacking up at all. Then jack up the rear end as far as you can. You will now have the car on an angle and the engine/tranie will slip right in. Set your creeper under the car so the tranie tail shaft can rest on it as the engine/tranie goes in and down. Then lower the rear end of the car as you jack up the tranie tail shaft. Easy enough that a Vega owner could do it.
Its better to be a has-been, than a never was.

Thanks, that solution borders on brilliant!  Richard (non Vega owner) haha
