72 front suspension
« on: November 15, 2015, 12:16:18 AM »
i just bought a 72 pinto road racecar. i have 2 mustang IIs. I want to put tubular a arms & 11" 5 lug front brakes on my pinto like I've done on my II. Are the early pinto a arms interchangeabl e with the II?

I'm pretty sure that the front suspension on the earlier cars (pre 74) is completely different, but I could be wrong. 1974 is when the Pinto and the Mustang II suspensions became the same.
Although anything can be done if you have the skills or money.

As mentioned, the Mustang II arms will not fit with out modification.  If you just want 11" 5-lug front disc brakes, the link below shows one method.

Did you complete the tubular a-arm swap?  I have a '71 and would love to hear and see what mods were required.

the link is great bit if everything was the same why couldn't the original calipers work. my car is a 71 trunk model it also has disc brakes, and the pedal also has disc brakes on it.

if I put a Granada rotor on my spindle I wont be able to use the original Caliper?? I must have read something wrong or missed something? can someone please help? I just bought my first pinto and I am still learning thanks. :)

You are right , the calipers will not work , you have to buy a bracket kit to use larger calipers , but it still can be done , your a arms are for 71 to 73 only , they were made made larger because of the weight increase and heaver engines to come , the 74 up mustang II and pinto are the same front suspension parts , but if you brought a road race car you might want to check and see if the suspension has been modifided already , post some photos , someone can tell is it has ,

I have looked at strange website for the kit but I cant seem to find it, it says page not found. anyways where would I get that braket to adapt the monte carlo caliper? also if I find a Granada spindle at the pick your part can I just swap the whole spindle with rotor/caliper? there might be a Granada at the pick'n pull by my house.

the rotor will go right on , but the caliper will not because it has a special way the Granada spindle holds the caliper , check on some post here for photos of the bracket , you may spend some time finding it but its here , its almost the same as the 74 up pinto , one hole  I do beileve is just off a tad , you may be able to mod it to fit but look around , but ck out 72 blue pintos post , I think he has done it , or do everything else and save that for last ,
