71 pinto doors auto lock ?

(1/2) > >>

Tonycando:
Curious if this is normal but I’m reassembling my 71 door assembly   Every time I close the door I have to unlock the door to open it. It happens on both side ?  If this is normal then this is dumb lol

Wittsend:
Hummm..., that does seem a bit odd. I remember some older cars you had to push the lock down on the inside and then hold the lever up or push the button in (depending on the design) to make sure the door locked as it was being closed. Otherwise even though the lock was down inside it would auto unlock when the door closed. Maybe something got reversed???

Tonycando:
I’m not sure what could have got reversed ? I kept it all complete when I removed it all linkages etc   It seems weird to me and don’t remember it doing this when I brought it home   Every time I close the door it locks itself. That will zoop if the keys are ever left in it for sure. Lol

I wish I could offer some insight into WHAT is wrong, but I can't.  What I CAN tell you is that something isn't right; the Ford Pinto/Mercury Bobcat never had self-locking doors as a feature!  Good luck with figuring out the problem.

Dwayne :)

Spent a good part of the day looking at this lol. If this is not normal I better get some sleep and maybe something will come to me as to how to fix this in a dream. Lol
