Title: 3 inch exhaust....
Post by: Rob3865 on March 31, 2014, 12:03:14 AM
I am curious. Is there anyone on here who has successfully a single 3" exhaust over the rear axle? Pictures? Thanks.

Thank you. I was thinking it could be done. Do you happen to remember what radius bend it took to go over the rear axle?

I think all my bends are on a 4 inch radius, I started with a 45 on the up leg to a 90 over the axle and another 45 to the muffler

If you play the Watergate tapes backwards this information will be revealed.  ;D   Did you know that "Deep Throat" is not actually a Watergate informant. Deep Throat is actually a "code" term for 3" exhaust.  It's true. I got this information from the same place I learned about FEMA Coffins and Chem Trails.  :D

I'm the one with the "Black Suburban". BTW, the 3" exhaust will go under the rear end with no more trouble than going over the rear end and will be with less bends. This message will self destruct in 10 seconds.

Not sure these are the same but something to look at.  Mike Modified has photos of a 3" exhaust in his thread, scroll down a bit.

According to my notes, these are from map351.  Their web links went bad so photos are attached below.

Look how low the muffler is and you will see why the 3" pipe can go under the rear end easyer than over it.

A regular heavy floor jack won't fit under the front subframe rails of mine.

I think I would prefer to use a long glasspack-style muffler ahead of the axle if a regular one wouldn't fit behind the rear valance. Or maybe oval tubing...

"Look how low the muffler is and you will see why the 3" pipe can go under the rear end easyer than over it."

In fact, that is often what we do on our Sunbeam Tigers.

thats amazing, i didnt think it was possible, i was thinking no way with a lowered pinto, but i stand corrected.
so 4 inch radius on a 3 inch pipe will clear? any clanking from when the axle creeps forward and back?
