Title: 26" tall tire on the front?
Post by: Rob3865 on July 24, 2016, 09:13:57 PM
Is there any way a 26" tall skinny front runner type tire will fit on the front with the correct back spacing? I am wanting the classic big and little look of a pro stocker. Thanks.

26 on the front of my white car. Rubs a little.
Going with something a bit smaller when I get new wheels.

Thank you. What type and backspacing wheel do you have? Where exactly does it rub?

While a specific back spacing and tire width will get you to to a position of the "most clearance" there is also the issue ride height.  The Pro Stock Pinto is an awesome look. But, remember those cars were never built to have the necessary turning radius and suspension travel needed on a street car. They also had modified wheel opening that looked stock, but were actually enlarged. So, there will likely be limitations to how close of a look you can get.  Thankfully the Pinto in stock form has very generous wheel opening for a car that came with 13" tires.

Think back space is 3 5/16".
Back space not the problem.
Drivers side ( 1972) tire hits the bump where the dimmer switch is.
Seems to me it hit someplace on the right as well ?

Going to (try) and get 25 " or 24.5".

If I ever get (both) cars done, they'll have 29 x 18.50 x 15s on the rear.

Do any of you know if the later cars might have any more room? Mine is a 76 Bobcat. I am going to try 235 60 15s.

Pretty sure that from 74 on they are all the same. But I can't say if they have more, the same, or less room than the non Mustang II front suspension cars.

Two problems there. First, those are bias ply. I really want to stick with radials. Two, 'taint payin "ALL THAT" for Volkswagen tires. LOL

I have a Percy's wheel and tire tool that will measure and tell me how tall and wide a tire will fit, plus the wheel width and back spacing, but I have the car on stands under the frame rails right this minute.

Soon as I can, I will get the stands under the control arms and take some measurements. I will let yall know what I find.

Gotchya. I missed the "R". Thanks. Still a little steep though. I think I may just end up going with 235 60 15s all around and just making them work on the front. It will ultimately handle better, plus I can carry just one spare.

When I get there, I will post pictures of what I have to do......if anything to make it work.
