centric makes a rebuild kit

I have bad memories of rebuilding them. My 3 stone hone was too big to fit. Can't remember if the 2 stone hone fitted. Seem to remember using a wood dowel wrapped with wet/dry sand paper to clean up the cylinder. After that first rebuild, I always bought the rebuilt cylinders but this was back when they were reasonable.

i started in the auto business with my uncle in, i think, 1965 doing brake jobs.
you know, pulling stuff apart, blowing the asbestos all over the place with an air hose.( i love the smell to this day)
linings then were riveted so i had to press out all the old rivets, grab the lining off the shelf, rivet it back on and then arc the linings to get them to some semblance of fitting the re-machined drums.
i rebuilt hundreds & hundreds of wheel cylinders then and it seemed that all the major brake parts mfrs had available (as did old school parts houses) assortments of many different sizes of brake cylinders rubber parts.
i know that this is/was a LONG time ago but i can't help but think that this stuff is still available et obviously harder to find.

As Stuwil mentions, rebuild parts are available. The problem I had is with the small cylinder size and trying to hone out the corrosion damage. The NAPA 2 stone hone below says it will fit. Sure is cheaper than the present rebuilt prices (maybe they are running out of cores).

new cylinders were going for about 35 ea. screw that
i hone out old cyls with a drill wrapped with a swath of soft cloth----no seams and 250 grit wet and dry. If there is not enough friction in the cyl i add another small piece of cloth under the sand paper. As I'm honing i keep it wet with water and soap. The finish is usually suitable for seating the new seals. BTW 7/8 cyl is only 8 bucks complete.

I bought a pair of 23/32 cylinders from rockauto for less than $10 apiece just to have on hand. Both my 72s currently have 7/8 cylinders on the back. They bolted up fine. One has an 8 inch, the other a 6.75. Honestly, I could tell no difference in braking or pedal feel.
