Title: 2.8 water bypass hose replacement
Post by: 78_starsky on August 25, 2012, 11:21:24 PM
The good:

engine ready to run (getting closer) in a few more hours of fiddling with stuff.

The bad: HELP.....

I can't get any parts place here in my home town (hey there is a song there somewhere) to find me or figure out for that matter what in hell I am talking about when I ask for a water bypass hose on a 2.8.... I get them stuffing their eyes onto a screen and blasting away at the keyboard and then they say... what car and year?? then these youngin's look at me as to want to ask if I am joking and what is a Pinto....

Can anyone tell me please if the hose I am looking for is 1 piece, 2 hoses with a metal pipe or just a figment of my imagination...

It is the one that has about a 3/4 inch dia. nipple off the water inlet on the intake manifold, and then comes off the thermostat housing.

If you could post a part and manufactures number that would also be a blessing.

thanks for reading my little rant. and any help would be great.

hi flash,   thanks for the info.  might be half of what I am looking for.  However, with that hose there is a part missing that makes the 180 degree bend (or so it seems to me)  placed in a couple pics of the nipples and where they are located.  Maybe I am confused about what it is that I am missing.   this hose section was not with this car when I bought it a few years back, and I figured that it would be easy to figure out....BAHLWAA AHAAHAA.... lol

cheers

Wow,  it just struck me...  do I have this bottom hose section placed on backwards?    If so,  this would explain many things.

Yes you have the bottom (the back one you  have circled) tube installed incorrectly, it should point up not down ! Then just use the hose I showed you.The other small hose connection on the front, next to to the lower raditor hose fitting, uses a 180 degree hose attached to a steel tube, then to the heater core with a 5/8 hose..

Hi flash.....   ok now I feel like a tool.... LOL  that explains the whole situation. Later today I will fix that problem and with your part numbers I can print out that link and show the kids at the parts place what I am looking for.  I have the other hoses and pipes in place, it was just this last one that was tossing me fits.  (funny when you don't tear it apart, you can't know exactly how it goes back together.)

That back part wasn't on the motor when I pulled it from the car, so when I placed it back together I just figured that if the other 2 point down this one must also.

cheers and thanks very much for the info.
