Title: 2.8 ranger 5 speed into 2.8 pinto?
Post by: 78_starsky on August 10, 2014, 10:09:58 PM
hey all,  still have the car pretty much parked this year also.....  can't get the cam through emissions, but next year all testing stations are being shut down so we can finally get the car fully insured.

the 83 ranger project i am working on had a factory 2.8  with a 5 speed.  was wondering how this would venture into the pinto?

anyone done it? and probs did you run into?

thanks in advance.

nothing wrong with the c4,  but got to thinking about how snappy it is already with the auto,  then began thinking about that little 5 speed and VRROOOM   had to ask.

cheers

Tranie on the Ranger is for pulling stumps out of the ground. Much to low gear in first.

A lot of T5s from behind 2.3s had first gear ratios in the 3.97-4.01 range, which appears to be numerically higher than any of the Ranger equipment. It's good to have with leggy rear end gears, but not so much with steeper ones.

All of the diagrams I can find for Ranger transmissions show the shifter being somewhere over the middle of the gear cluster, which is several inches forward of a T5 shifter...whic h is about two inches further forward than a stock Pinto manual.

Maybe it is the larger gap between 1st and 2nd that gives the Ranger transmission the perception of it being a stump puller gear.

Wife's two 07 Rangers have 4:88 diff.
Biggest reason for the "snap".
