2.8 leaking front seal
«

hey all
This car still hasn't been moved under its own power.... getting close though. tackling the front seal problem. can anyone help on this one?
Prob is that the front seal leaks when the engine is running on low idle, roughly 7-800 rpm. above that no issues with leakage. do these seals get old and dry out even if never installed before? I am going to take the harmonic back off today and pull the seal out again and replace it to see if this corrects the prob.
If it does GREAT, if not what can cause this to happen? head scratcher on why low RPM leaks. is there a newer style seal that I should be asking for>?
cheers thanks
here is a build thread for the car if anyone wants more info.

hi 78 starsky,
I would look at the harmonic balancer's shaft, where the seal rides, and look for a grove that is made by the seal riding on it. There are sleeves that you can buy at the parts store to give the seal a good surface to ride on.

was able to get the speedi sleeve and a new seal onto the car this afternoon.... happy to report back that after about 25 minutes of different RPM's she didn't leak a drop.
thanks Dennis for the reply. that worked.
