The best I recall Ohio George ran more of a Funny Car type - Turbo, Boss 429. Perhaps it is Buddy Ingersoll you are thinking of. He ran a Turbo 4 cylinder Pinto.

Hot Rod magazine ran a two part story on Montgomery's 2.0 AA/MC in Oct. and Nov. of 1976.  Maybe a library would have the back issues.  My photo copies of the articles are only partially readable.  I can scan them and email them if desired.  What I find impressive is they did this without intercoolers (not NHRA allowed, I believe).

Thank you for the correction.  Turbos did not interest me back in the 70's and this car somehow slipped by my knowing.  Here is a link to some pictures of the OG Pinto.  Interesting that Ingersoll ran a draw through while Montgomery ran a blow through.

Very nice link.  Seems like the package evolved since the Hot Rod magazine articles which showed a draw through carb set up.  I see the class went from AA/MC to SS/AC also.

A little side note here is the 33 Willys George won the 59 NHRA Nationals with was powered by a big block Caddy. The car had a recessed area on the deck lid for a spare tire and George always on step ahead made the spare out of concrete complete with a steel wheel. It was the full size of one of his slicks. Must have weighed a ton. How do I know this? I was there crewing on a Hemi powered 32 Ford A-Gaser. Long time ago, in a land far away.

B.I. was my 'hero' back then. He & his little 2.0 were quite controversial back then..

I remember watching him back in the day, that Pinto was a humpin' little car.
