1977 Pinto V6 T-stat

Can someone please tell me how to find and change the thermostat on this '77 w/2.8 V6. It's running hot so I'm gonna start there. Thanx a heap..

On the v6, I believe they're located at the bottom front of the motor.

The thermostat is at the lower radiator hose. The housing is located in front of the water pump. There are three 10mm headed bolts holding it on. They thread into a 90 degree bypass nipple behind the timing cover.You will need a new thermostat, flat rubber gasket, housing gasket, nipple gasket. Its a bit tricky getting it all in place to bolt together.You said its running hot. How hot? I have had mine since new and it most always runs at the high end of normal on the factory gauge.

I don't have a temp gauge so I don't know exactly how hot but the coolant is boiling through the hose at the cap so I also installed a new rad cap.

Had to replace my fan to get my b6 to run cooler, can run a/c on hot fl days or it gets to hot for me to be ok with sure the car would be ok but don't want to blow motor! Good luck n hope u fund your over hearing issue

What is the purpose of the small hose to the T-Stat housing? There is no opening for coolant to flow. Anyone know?

The small hose ,5/8 dia, is the heater hose. dont know what you mean by" no opening for coolant to flow" unless it is corroded shut.

You'll want to clear that hose fitting out. Could be part of your issue. You might want to check all your other connections for clogs, and then run a couple cycles of 'Super Cooling System Flush' through it. Sounds like it may have been neglected by a PO at some point.

I'm pretty sure a head gasket is the problem. Will a 2.8 from a 1984 Ranger swap in place or is there any difference?
