I recently picked up a 1977 Pinto Wagon. The Gas Tank is beyond repair. Most/All of the tanks that I see for sale on D'Bay are show for being for up to a 76. Question 1, would one of those fit? Question 2, Would the regular Hatchback Pinto Tank fit the Wagon or no?
Also, if anyone out there has a tank that will fit, I'm interested. Any help with my questions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I might have a good one in my Pinto parts storage shed , had to dig it out this weekend and look , is yours full of pin holes or just rusty inside ???

The tank is pretty badly rusted. I believe it to be beyond repair.

if its just rusty it can be saved if you take the time to do it , one the fuel sending unit is toast also but still can be brought new , the way I cleaned the rust out of my tank was remove tank from car and wash out with diesel , next is to find a old bareque pit motor and rig it up to hold the tank to it , next is to go to a pet store and get two large bags of fish tank gravel and pour into tank , fill with a gallon of water and plug up tank , turn on motor and run for 8 hours or more , wash out the remains of rust and gravel , inside of tank should be very shinny , if you have a few very small pin holes no problem , next buy some sloushing compound for motorcycle tanks , it seals the inside of tank , it must be dry before you pour it into tank and sloush it around and drain and dry ,and repeat , tank should be good to go , done it a few times over the years and its works , hope this helps , later Blaine

In 1984 I used fiberglass mat and resin to coat the underside of a wagon tank up to and over the mid-section. It was full of pinholes. It never leaked a drop and sent it to the junkyard in 1989.

Gas back then probably didn't have alcohol in it though. Boaters with fiberglass fuel tanks have complained about ethanol damaging their tanks since E10 widely replaced MTBE.

My tank in my wagon was bad also. I sent it to Moyer gas tank repair in P.A The welded new panel on top and sealed inside and out. A Little pricey but did a great job.
