Hi again all, I have finally fixed the problem. I sent away for the carb restrictor kit and installed it along with rebuilding carb and tried some #58 jets. no change in the performance of the engine, so this weekend I checked the alignment of the timing marks. That was where the problem was. On the cam sprocket there is a drill point about 3/8" dia, on one of the "legs" of the sprocket, but no dot or line or arrow or anything on the teeth. Being the dork that I am I just assumed that the drill point was the mark and lined up on it. The auxillary shaft sprocket has this same mark and nothing on the teeth also, so it wasn't like I used the wrong sprocket. After lining up the cam to be at TDC and making my own mark I found out It was 2 teeth off!!! I lined it up right, put it back together, fired it up, set timing to 6 degrees @ 550 rpm, and took it for a ride...... WOW what a difference!!! I can actually take off from a stop sign without feathering the clutch, and it accellerates when I step on the gas without it wanting to cough, choke, and die! I was wanting to get rid of this car but now all I wanna do is drive it! Thanks so much for all your help guys!
