pinto gas tank sender resistance?
« on: April 01, 2016, 09:09:21 PM »
I can't find a new tank sender unit for my 77 Pinto. I've scrounged up 3 senders and they all have different resistance even after cleaning them up. Anyone know what's resistance on a good sender? full to empty.

According to the 1977 Ford Pinto "Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshootin g Manual" the sender resistances are: 60 to 86 ohms when empty and 8 to 12 ohms when full.

As to finding a replacement, a NOS unit may show up on ebay.  The search function here showed three pages of "fuel sender" related threads.  There was a recent thread on a 1973 fuel sender replacement that may or not help, see below.

80-10 ohms is standard for Ford I believe.  Summit carries universal but I'd think a MII can be sourced.  I've only seen P/N for 74-76 but I'll be installing that one in a 72 Pinto.  It's identical from pics.

Installed this weekend and MII is the replacement.  Arm approx. .75 inch longer but made no difference.
