The strut rod bolts to the top of the lower control arm. If the bolts were installed in the same direction in the strut rod, one strut rod would be aimed correctly and the other side would be aimed out the side of the car or towards the front. Hard to verbally explain, try laying both of them out on the floor to see proper orientation.
Suspect we are getting our word descriptions mixed up. The bolts enter both lower control arms from the top. The strut rods have to be filliped over from one side to the other in order to lay on the top of the lower control arm and be aimed in the right direction.
Since you have two strut rods with the bolts pressed in in the same direction, you may have strut rods from more than one car (looking at two right or two left assemblies?). Hope I got all that right, have fun.
