1971 Pinto Seat upholstery/swap questions
« on: March 31, 2019, 09:30:06 PM »
Hello,
Yes, I used the search function! No answers I am looking for.
I'm looking to restore/restomod the interior of my 1971 Pinto, and keep it looking as close tp factory as possible. so 2 scenarios in my mind-

1. I have highback seats in black already, does any aftermarket reproduction precut seat foams fit the Pinto seats properly, i.e., '70-'71 Torino or Maverick, because those are available commercially. I found a place that sells aftermarket seat covers specifically for the early Pinto.

2. What early '70s Ford seats will directly bolt in the '71 Pinto that reproduction foam and seat covers are available easily, maybe the ''70-'71 Torino, Maverick? What about early '70s Mustang?

I want my car to look early '70s and I want new foam and seat covers, I am not at all interested in later model seats regardless, I want it to look at least kinda period correct, like an old car.

Thanks guys,
Brian

I think you will find that the 71-73 seats are pretty much unique to the Pinto! I also think you will find that the 74-78 are shared with the Pinto and it's various variants like Mustang II and Bobcat! I also think you will find that the 79-80 are shared with the Pinto the Bobcat and the Fox body platform! Good luck!

The Pinto seats are unique. I imagine that the Bobcat ones are the same as the Pinto, but I've never had a Bobcat.
Mustang II seats totally different.
The only interior piece that fits the Pinto from the II is the console. And you need to get the tunnel mounting brackets from the II.

Pintos and Mustang IIs share very little.

Seats unbolt from brackets I know someone who put Mustang II seats in his Pinto! No drilling no welding No making brackets!

Sorry I don't have  foam/upholstery source.

Regarding the "look" I get it. I put Turbo Coupe seats in my Pinto. Not too bad, but still just not right.  Sourcing other seats can be an issue. The width between the tunnel and door is rather narrow. I don't consider the T/C seats to be on the wide side but they barely fit even with the side bolsters cranked in. And that "plus size" (compared to a Pinto seat) kind of has a Ricardo Montalban gussied up K-Car look.

Somewhere here I have a post on how I adapted the T/C seats to the Pinto tracks. It was rather easy and a number of points just "Lined Up" ((a few holes were drilled).

Thanks guys for the replies, does anyone know if the '70-'71 Torino seats will fit? I read they are skinnier than Mustang seats, for the Torino new seat foam and upholstery is available.
