Title: 1971 Disc/Drum Master Cylinder out of production?

I've looked all over to find a replacement brake master cylinder for our disc/drum 1971 Runabout. Is there an interchage with another combination or will I have to just try and make something fit?

I ran into tbe same problem with my 73 wagon but fortunately my master cylender id still i  good condition

I did score a rebuildable core and am going to investigat finding a rebuilt kit that will fit.

I assume that if you can find a rebuild kit with the same sized rubber parts you could rebjild the one you have.

And if all else fails there are a couple of place that will sleeve your master cylinder for you. It is not a cheep way to repair but I understand it is a stainless steel sleeve so should never give an issue. Last time I looked into it was around $200.00 for that sort of repair.

Rock Auto shows them for $73. l have a used one from the Pintoracer that was working perfectly, it was a new (not reman) Raybestos, maybe 4 years old. $30 plus shipping. Also have the complete disc brake set-up for sale (possibly without the rotors, another member inquired about them but has not commited to buy.)

Do you know what the port sizes are on that M/C you have? The RAYBESTOS MC36319 is listed on RockAuto, but when I try to buy it's actually out of stock. Go figure. I see there's a 1/2-20 3/8-24 and a 1/2-20 9/16-18 for port size combos. Not a total dealbreaker if we have to change some fittings.

Mine has a step down adapter in the rear port so l'm guessing it has the 9/16-18. So the 74 up will probably work

Later models should work as long as the bore and piston sizes are the same and you can find adapters for the ports

Alzo while we are discussing brakes..

Has a yone experienced the rear brakes on a disk drum wagon locking up prematurely during hard  braking.

Mine seem to do that a lot even on dry roads.

I also have organis pads on the front and 14" 205 tires all aroind.

I have been contemplaring getting a adjustable proportioning valve for the rear

YES!  I thought it might have been related to my using a drum to drum full 8" rear end swap and something having a minor difference.  With the added weight of the 2.3/turbo it seems to make the car nose heavy but I still feel there is just a natural inclination of the rear to get light during heavy braking and cause the lock up.
