5.0 oil pan
« on: February 03, 2019, 09:52:32 PM »
I have a 1980 Pinto that I want to put a 5.0 with automatic transmission, I just started to do this and see the oil pan will not clear the steering and cross member on the frame. Can someone give me information on what I should do, get a oil pan with the sump in the front or something else. Thanks

Keep in mind you are building a go fast car. A 5 qt pan without oil control & you have very little oil left in the pan...

I use the above pan on all my builds.

I tried this on a newer block. Fits perfect. Only difference was the dip stick on that block was in the side of the block. Just tap it & a plug, then use a timing chain cover with the dip stick & you are good to go.

Also, if you use a CVF Racing short water pump (and the Pulleys meant for this) you get another 1 1/2" of more clearance.

Thanks for the information. Just wanted to ask did the oil pan clear the cross members of the front end? Or did you have to move the motor mounts to get the engine to fit? Thankd
