I do not believe anything is compatible between the 1600 and the 2300, and that includes bellhousing bolt patterns.

A 1600 is worth whatever a person looking for a 1600 is willing to pay.  I know there are a few folks on here that have the 1600 motor.  Don't junk them, and if you can put them up in decent storage, time will only make these scarce motors even harder to find.  As you are no doubt aware, parts for these cars are getting harder and harder to find, with the unique earlier stuff seeming to be the most difficult to find. (ask how many people are in search of the illusive '71 half hatch)  Keep anything that is not actually broken.  You may find that you'll get yourself a nice 1600 car that needs a little work to restore, and those parts are what you need.  Just my 2c... ;D
The Pinto I had I gave to my brother. The car was originally my mom's, (78 red Pinto sedan with a 2.3 and a 4spd.) I am originally from Tucson, AZ but moved to Oxnard CA :D

Thanks. Ill post the stuff up here when I get it. I dont think Ill be buying a Pinto for a driver. Id rather race em. I have enough "drivers" in my yard that need more miles on them!

I installed a 1600 trans on my 74 2.3 runabout. Don't forget to get drive shaft with both trans. The only other thing that I can think of that interchange is alternator and starter.  Fred   :)

Its the other way  -  2.3 bell wont bolt to 1600 trans need to use 1600 bell drill out lower mount dowels to fit 2.3.  Fred

OR...
You can use special stepped dowel pins that perfectly locate the bell to the block.
I just happen to have a few sets of those. ;)
