I do not believe anything is compatible between the 1600 and the 2300, and that includes bellhousing bolt patterns.
A 1600 is worth whatever a person looking for a 1600 is willing to pay. I know there are a few folks on here that have the 1600 motor. Don't junk them, and if you can put them up in decent storage, time will only make these scarce motors even harder to find. As you are no doubt aware, parts for these cars are getting harder and harder to find, with the unique earlier stuff seeming to be the most difficult to find. (ask how many people are in search of the illusive '71 half hatch) Keep anything that is not actually broken. You may find that you'll get yourself a nice 1600 car that needs a little work to restore, and those parts are what you need. Just my 2c...
