1600 and 2000 Pinto Trannys.
« on: October 19, 2009, 04:23:55 PM »
Ok, this has probably been gone through before, but I kind of did a search and gave up! LOL So I am going to ask!

What is the differences in the 1600 tranny and the 2000 tranny?

We went to our tranny guy who has like 30 some odd Pinto trannys, to get a replacement for my 1600 motor. You know out of all those tranny's he could only find 1 1600 one!!! So that got us to thinking. Can we take a 2.0 tranny and put the bell houseing off my 1600 tranny on it? Or can we bolt a 2.0 bell up to my 1600 motor?

Thanks and sorry for a repeat question!!

Kim I installed a 1600 trans on a 2.3 had to drill the 2 bushing holes larger and use 1600 friction disk with 2.3 pressure plate and flywheel but I don't know about 2.0 Tony is the 2.0 guy.  Fred   :)

Pintogirl, check whether your trans has a 1" 23 spline input or a 7/8" 20 spline input. IIrc 1600s had a 7-1/2" clutch while 2000s had an 8-1/2" If you have a 23 spline tranny the 8-1/2" clutch will work and the trans bolts right up. Hope this makes sense and helps. JT

Ok, I have the smaller 7/8 20 spline tranny. Thanks for the info. This kinda of stuff is nice to know when dealing with several Pintos!!

I'm not sure of the name of the place. I just know how to get there! LOL  I will ask hubby if he knows, and if not, next time I go that way, I will check on the name!

How much does he charge for what? A tranny or to work on a tranny?

Yes, it is in Sacramento!
