'73 Pinto Wagon 2.0 NO SPARK wont start
« on: February 24, 2014, 06:53:38 PM »
So about a month ago my pinto was running great. took it on a long trip and it did fabulous. After returning home and driving to school the next day i pulled into my friends house to drop him off. When i pulled in, the car died. Wasn't a surprise, it was very cold and it happens sometime. I tried to start it, it took alot longer than normal. a lot. i went down the street and immediatly noticed something was not right. th car would go, but i could feel that there was no real power. i had to give it alooooooot of gas to keep going. when i hit a hill it would only go literally 3mph. it took a hell of a long time getting home. there it sat in my driveway until my stepfather and I started to address it.
We re did the timing belt and timing and replaced all the spark plugs, took it for a spin, and it was doing better, but still would not stay running without constantly feathering the gas.
We then thought it was just maybe the carb.
So we did a complete rebuild.
Put it back on and added a new filter to the gas line. the carb was getting gas, it started to crank for a split second and then simply would not give in.
Knowing we did everything accordingly to the carb and its rebuild, we bought a new coil and hooked it up.
Still, NO SPARK, and engine not even beginning to start.
Really trying to solve this for a trip i have planned in 2 days from now.
Really could use the help, we have no idea what to do next....

Points and condenser first. Wires can be easily checked with a volt meter for good/bad. The point gap MUST be correct or coil will not saturate.
