i just picked up an 87 ford thunderbird that runs and drives 2.3T . blown head gasket but i only paid $500 for it. thats the best way to go, you will have all the wiring and also a 5spd transmission. instead of svo these were called turbo coupe. watch craigslist, if you go on ebay you can buy just an engine on a pallet at a junk yard with out all the wiring or transmission for the same price and have no idea about the condition.  Hope this helps.
