Title: Carlisle 2008
Post by: 77turbopinto on December 14, 2007, 08:15:12 AM
For those that don't go to All Ford Show at Carlisle, you don’t know what you’re missing. They have things to do for the entire family; Aside from thousands of cars to see in the show field, there is a HUGE swap meet, a 4X4 rock crawl area, a burn-out competition, a chassis dyno, vender displays, kids play area, indoor displays, a ‘For Sale’ area, and much more.

IMHO: You won’t find a better show with a specific PINTO classes, and PCCA gets a tent for us to gather in right next to our Pintos.

All Pintos are welcome; they need not be “show” cars (my tan one was FAR from a show car when I brought it there), if you don’t have a Pinto with you, stop in to see us anyway and show your support of PCCA and your fellow Pinto ‘people’.

Please check out Carlisle’s website for further details:

http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ford/index.asp

Please remember to include "Pinto Car Club of America" on your form when you register.

Be a part of the best PCCA event EVER!!

See you there!!

BTW: I mentioned this before, but I will again; I will 'chair' or assist with organizing PCCA's members involvement the same way I did in 2007 (I will even try to do better). If anyone else would like to do it, or even co-chair, please let me know. As soon as I have more details about what PCCA is doing this for year, I will post them.

I registered Connie and myself for Carlisle today, and I also got the ball rolling for the tent.

One thing I noticed this year; there was information about what makes a car “stock”, “modified” or a “racecar”. They might have had the same details last year, but I don’t think it was as obvious. It says that a ‘stock’ car has 3 or less modifications, a modified car has 4 or more, but it does not say what a ‘modification’ is, however, it gives some clear details for ‘racecars’. I know there were a few questions about this at the last event, so it might be a good idea to talk about it before the event.

Wheels? Tires? Paint? Chrome? Tachometer?.........

Any thoughts?

I would say that aftermarket repair parts don't count as "mods". Nor would converting to electronig ignition, as long as OEM style parts are used. Mods would be more obvious upgrades, like an MSD box.

So If I installed only a 302, C4, and 8" rear....is that 3 mods? Would I still qualify as "stock"?  :showback: For "Judged shows" HEHEHE
Title: Re: Carlisle 2008?
Post by: 77turbopinto on December 27, 2007, 02:28:24 PM
My point exactly.

I think that COULD be looked at as only one, because Pintos came with C4s and 8" rears. The only thing about it is that you have to make a few "modifications" to install "a" V8 in a Pinto.

Some might argue that changing to aftermarket wheels is '4' modifications too.

Is changing the color and putting on graphics consitered 2?

This is a 'peoples choice' type event.

Well, if that's the case then even my Pinto isn't gonna be stock. Roller cam, black interior instead of tan, different wheels than what was on, 8" rear end, Mustang II console... I say it doesn't matter. Too much emphasis is put on the classes like that, atleast among Pintos.

Once I get the cash I'm gonna get registered for Carlisle. Gonna get the hotel room reserved in a couple more weeks.

Not having been before, is it neccessary that you register for the show, to get to park on the grounds?

IF I get to go, which I doubt, I'd just as soon go park amongst the other Pintos. Then not wory about being judged, even if it is people's choice.

Wouldn't OEM Ford parts of similar vintage, be considerd stock? IE: the black interior, and sotted dish wheels. Even the MII console COULD be considered OEM. Especially to the unknowing masses doing the judging. :)
Title: Re: Carlisle 2008?
Post by: 77turbopinto on December 27, 2007, 05:21:50 PM
Yes, to bring a car in it must be registered, either for show, or for sale.

Parking with the other Pintos is not the issue. I was informed last year that some folks take this VERY seriously. In an effort to be fair to all, I feel that being registered in the correct catagory is (very) important.

I feel if its an OEM "Pinto" or "Pinto" part that was offered for that year/model in that color (interior or exterior), then it's not modified. I also feel that if from all outside apperences it looks stock, it's not modified.

Examples:
1) Swapping a 2.3 into a 74 that had a 2.0 from the factory is not a modification.
2) Installing an 8" rear into a car that came with a 6.75" is not a modification.
3) Installing a roller cam into a 2.3 is not a modification.
4) Changing between colors that were offered the year the car was made is not a modification.
5) Installing a C/W front spoiler on a non-wagon is a modification.
6) Installing a 78 Mustang II center console into 78 Pinto would be a modification (sorry Matt).

Again, these are my just thoughts....

Hmmm... So for now I'd be good then. Ah, who cares. lol Besides the consle the only other mod I plan on doing is replacing my torn up front seats with a set of low back bucket seats from a Tempo or Escort.

I think if we all work together on this it will be as fair as it can be.

I'm sorry, I'm NOT trying to stir up trouble. Just pointing out that, to the general public, what APPEARS to be stock, could be a mod, & vice versa.

I'll shut my yap now & let the serious discussion begin.  ;D

My bad Bill, I was only joking around. I' d have to say the most important thing about the show is just getting out there & having fun. That and getting the looks from all the people walking around seeing all them Pintos sitting in a row. ;D

If so? I will have to run 3 alloys and 1 hubcap... ;D

after doing some research here is what i found as rules conserning stock and modified

STOCK CLASS
The Stock Class will include vehicles that appear to be factory stock. The interior must be original or a duplicate of the original in material, style and color. Engine must be visibly stock for the vehicle's year and model. Numbers do not have to match.. No bolt-on aftermarket parts allowed. Wheels must be available for the year/model of the vehicle

The intent of the "Stock" class is to simulate an original, assembly line condition vehicle. It is recognized that most of these vehicles will have some changes and additions.
list of modifications
[/color]
Interior significantly modified (i.e., shag carpet, incorrect seat material, non-factory seat, low-back buckets where high-backs belong, Incorrect year shifter)
Non-stock paint scheme/striping significantly different from production
Factory wheels of incorrect year, significant difference
Non-factory wheels
2 each Ride height altered more than 1 inch, lift kits, after-market shackles, traction bars
Deeply tinted glass
Non-factory shifter, approx stock appearance
Competition, after-market shifter, Vertigate, etc.
1 each Chrome engine or underhood accessories. Chrome valve covers
After-market gauges (including tach)
Dash altered for after-market gauges
Non-factory type carb
Non-factory type intake manifold
 Headers
Incorrect engine color
After-market chrome exhaust tips that differ significantly from factory equipment, or non-factory location
Exterior modifications that significantly alter the appearance of the vehicle (i.e., after-market style scoops, spoilers, air dams, altered or flared wheel openings, tubs, sunroofs, etc.)

.MODIFIED CLASS
The following items will automatically put your vehicle in the Modified Class: bodywork that involves a redesign of the original body lines, including but not limited to nosing, chopping, channeling, sectioning, changing radius of wheel wells, moulding, tunneling, etc. Paint that is of custom design such as painted Graphics, shading, blending, candy, pearl, neon, or murals. Engine relocation and/or custom fabricated engine mounts and/or a different engine than was available with any given entry and/or a smoothed out engine block. Any aftermarket )non stock OEM) multiple carb set-ups, tunnel rams, blowers, turbo chargers and/or late model tuned port-type fuel infection on any other era vehicle. Interiors that are of a custom design that consists of changes to three or more of the following: seats, door panels, dash modifications, flooring, headliner, trunk, or truck bed area. See notes concerning dealer- and factory-sold conversions in Stock Class above.
 hope this helps

What I'm noticing is prolly about half the Pintos out there would be in modified. It's just my opinion, but too much goes into rating the cars as to what class they are.
Title: Re: Carlisle 2008
Post by: phils toys on January 05, 2008, 01:17:30 PM
Matt , keep in mind  carlisle allows 3  modifications. each rim would not count as one  (4)  buy just 1 modification also other than stock size tires  would be a modification.
The intent of the "Stock" class is to simulate an original, assembly line condition vehicle. It is recognized that most of these vehicles will have some changes and additions.

just trying to give people an idea
and if  you are not in it for a "trophy"  and just for  fun   what difference does it make if you are listed in modified  if you did make more than 3 changes?  I do realize this is not a judged  show but i have attended several judged shows and they try to put my car in the modified class  because  they had never seen rims like  them before  so now i carry  proof  they are factory  wheels.
no matter how it is set some will get upset.

Well, when you put it like that Phill, I see your point. I guess I'm just not used to attending car shows as a participant, but as a spectator only. I'd have to say you're right. As long as I have fun at the show I guess it doesn't matter.
Title: Re: Carlisle 2008
Post by: r4pinto on January 05, 2008, 01:25:55 PM
Thing I noticed is there are people that get around it anyways. When I went to the Chrysler show this year there was a guy that had an 89 Plymouth Horizon done up as an 85 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo clone, and he was in stock FWD class. They didn't even make the GLH after 86, so his car was heavily modified, but nothing was said about it.
Title: Re: Carlisle 2008
Post by: 77turbopinto on January 05, 2008, 03:02:06 PM
Phil, thats a good list of stuff. The only thing is there are 3 classes, not just those two, and Carlisle has the details on what 'modifications' put a car into the (3rd) racecar class.

Matt, yes there are some that chose to do stuff like that and thats sad; I would hope that in a people's choice the voters would notice things like that and vote accordingly.

Again, the reason I wanted to bring this up now is because of all of the questions on it last year.

Hi Guys
In my many years showing my restored to original 70 Boss 302 I discovered that there are a lot of people that put there car in shows for trophys. I call them trophy hunters & they get upset when they get beat out. Even if they lose to a better car. It is harder & more costly to restore a car to original. By original I mean with original  restored parts or NOS parts with the correct part # on them & not over the counter Ford replacement parts. Ford replacement parts are not allways the same as came on the car from the factory. A simple explanation would be a turn signal that came from the factory with a blue wire plug & an over the counter one has a black plug. I go to shows to enjoy the cars & the people I meet. If I win a trophy it's great if I don't it's no biggie to me. It is important to have good rules set for the classes. Stock should be just as it implies stock ie no mods. If you have more than 3 mods you go into the mod class no questions asked. I think we all can tell a race car. All you guys that have been to the Carlisle show know my 78 Cruisin Wagon is pure stock. LOL

You can still park with the stocks and modifieds if you want, that would be kool. If you want to park with the other racecars, you can park your butt under the tent with us anyway.

BTW: Did you ever find a DYNO that that car will fit on?

Hi y'all. When i set up the classes at Carlisle ,while working with them. They did not offer more than the two classes.I for one did not have any problems with Brians car in the modified class and I did not hear anyone complain. But thats OK,so lets just move on.So is my Rallye a modified or race car, seeing that I also autocross and do some drag racing.Just want to know.I hope to make Carlisle this year,I am trying to get a new driveway put in,just trying to figure out finances.

Did you call or do it online?

Hi y'all. When i set up the classes at Carlisle ,while working with them. They did not offer more than the two classes....

If you click on this link you will see where the 2008 Carlisle registration form for the All Ford Show has 6 different classes. Pintos would only fit into 3 of them.

http://store.carlisleevents.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CE&Product_Code=2008-028&Category_Code=CANC

Type:
      Stock (3 or less modifications)
      Modified (4+ modifications)
Pro-Street/Race (Tubs, Induction thru Hood, Roll Cage, etc)
      Street Rod (Pre 1949)
  Truck:
       2-WD
       4-WD

As the event coordinator last year I can say there were many questions asked about ALL classes. I would hope that any future event chair (for any show) would not have to deal with this issue again.

Please keep this in mind: there are members here (and other Pinto owners too) that take this, or any competition VERY seriously, and others that don't. In all fairness to those that 'do', I believe we all should enter our cars in the appropriate class. If someone is unsure of what class they should be in they should contact Carlisle Events directly.

I just want everyone that goes there to have a great time.

Hi all!

I'm hoping to meet some of you face to face at Carlisle in June :).  Seriously doubt that I'll have my Pinto all done by then, but you never know.  A lot depends on the weather between now and then... it's just too cold to work on it now!  If I'm able to arrange to be there for the entire event, I may register one of my '79 Lincolns instead since neither of them would require any work before showing.

Actually, because the timing of the Carlisle Ford Nationals is pretty close to that of another event (non-automotive) that I'm planning to attend in Dallas, TX,  my intention at the moment is to make Carlisle a day trip on Saturday, rest up  at home on Sunday, and start the drive :fastcar: to Texas on Monday.  The only way I could register a car and stay for the entire event would be if the Dallas trip falls through for some reason :(.  I won't know anything on that until later.  Last minute accomodations wouldn't be a problem since my daughter lives in Mechanicsburg; about halfway between Carlisle and Hershey.  She'll put me up if I can't find a room.

So... while the details are still unclear, I DO plan to at least put in an appearance and will be looking forward to meeting whoever's there.

OK folks, getting down to the wire....

I have to put some stuff together for the event staff; I need a good idea of how many of our members will be attending this year, so PLEASE post here if you are planning to go.

As always, we need 25 PRE-REGISTERED before May 19 to get the tent for free. BTW: The tent price has gone up this year.

Again, please indicate: "Pinto Car Club of America" on your registration (not "PCCA").

This year Carlisle is having a "Club Banner Competition". This is the first year for it, and this is the first year that banners are mandatory.

Thank you,
Bill

According to the Carlisle registration form it seems that they would consider it a racecar.

From what I understand, all the racecars are parked together and judged as one class.

Please note that just because you register it as a 'racecar' you can still park with us, you just won't be in the trophy competition with the stocks and modifieds. (I say this because on the club form it asks how many 'non-class' cars will be parking with the '2 Pinto classes'. I will put '2' on the form just in case)

I will be there. I am getting back to work on the Pinto tomorrow after work. Gotta fix an oil leak, get ready for a tranny swap, and drop the gas tank. I got very little time so I'm gonna be working on her alot.

Thanks for all the updates.

I have a lot of stuff to bring and do like last year, so I will ask to leave the two spots next to the tent for Connie and I to park. We had to move the rows last year to do that, but it seemed to work out after we figured it all out. (BTW: I asked Carlisle staff about switching the rows and doubling up before I did it and they said OK)

I don't know if Carlisle will make the same mistake this year and not give us enough spots, but I will be in contact with them about that.

I don't know where we will be, and probably won't ahead of time. The seem to move things around every time; maybe based on how many classes, cars in classes and how many club tents there will be. I have noticed that the tents tend to be on the more level areas and I think thats a big plus, even if we are farther away.

All Ford Nat's is an awesome time.  You NEED to go if you're in the area.

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it out this year.  I'm back in school and that is a week prior to finals.  And my '78 is getting further and further from being complete.   :(

Harley, unless you have a roll cage and tubs, etc I'd say yours is a Modified.  What class do you run in AutoX?

I wish there was a way to just put "N/A" in the class field if you weren't going to the event to get judged.  It sounds like it would make it easier for some of you guys.  ;)

Hey Adam, hows it going.Just got the tranny back in with a high performance clutch.Need to get fluid in it and figure out the speedo cable install. The tranny is a T-9 from a xr4ti.No i do not have a roll cage, but modified class is just fine. The Rallye runs in the c/m class in the local auto-x.Hope to see you and every one else at Carlisle.

C-Modified...  I am suprised you aren't running in Street Mod class.  "Any engine by the same manufacturer ruling"

Are you competitive?

I see.  C-Mod looked like a tough group with franken-cars running in it around here.  LSx powered RX-7s, 5.0L Miatas, etc.

I got the bed and breakfast arranged (granparents).  I just have to put in my time off request at work.  *crosses fingers*

It is common for people to reschedule their jury duty by telling the court that they have a vacation planned. You might need to provide some documantation, but it sould not be an issue.

Brian: I think we have somewhere between 5 to10. Last year we only had about 10 pre-registered, but 16 Pintos were at the show.

Norm: I paid for the tent again this year, and if we don't get the 25 I hope that people will help out like in the past, but will not be obligated to do so. If someone wants to bring drinks/food for the tent that would be great. I am going to see what I can do too.

Hi all!
Sorry I didn't get a chance to really visit with anyone much at Carlisle.  By the time I made it to the PCCA area (many many thanks to Connie and her beautiful orange and white Pinto for the lift - I'm not sure we would have made it otherwise) there were few folks in the tent and the people around the cars all seemed pretty well occupied.  It was truly gratifying to see so many nice Pintos.  Other than my own, I haven't really seen one up close and in person for years!  I think it instilled some faith in my son, Cody, that my Pinto might actually turn out to be something special after all... just like I've been telling him all along!
The heat, as all of you know, was blistering, and was starting to take its toll on my buddy Charlie who is 71 years old.  Then too, I have a problem with my right foot that was aggravated by all the walking.  We migrated from the PCCA site to the picnic area nearby, and found a shady spot to rest.  I had intended to make my way back up to the Pintos before I left but it just didn't happen... I had a dinner date scheduled with my oldest daughter (she lives in Mechanicsburg) and had to get going.
I'm going to aim toward getting my Pinto up there next year and fully participating in all the fun.  Thanks, guys, for keeping those ponies running!
Dwayne

Afternoon all! This the first chance i've had to post since getting home very late Sunday night. It was great to see all of you again, wish it could be more often than once a year. Thanks to everybody who oversaw the event and to all who provided prizes/surprises(Harley). I would like to thank EVERBODY who voted for my car. And to all the folks who thought my car was good enough to tell Mr. Miller it was the nicest Pinto there, even over the own cars. THANKS so much again,I can't say enough about this group of people and their cars! I'll see all again next year at Carlisle,it can't get here soon enough!

Just wanted to say THANKS FOR EVERYTHING to all that were involved at the Pinto tent. My wife and I had a great time (dispite the heat ). It was very nice meeting everyone and talking pinto stuff with everyone. Its amazing how much you don't know when you talk to someone who does. I learned allot this weekend. Can't wait to do it again with the group. Next time, I'll be there on Fri and stay till Sun. It was so great to see all the extremely well done pintos. What inspiration I gained to do the next one. Now, just hide some more money from my wife, and start the next one !!!!! Just kidding, the next one is hers !  Thanks Steph, for the great picts. Hope everyone is OK after the heat and long rides home. God Bless and hope to see you all again soon.

Hello all Pinto friends,or is that fiends?

First & foremost I would like to thank Bill, Connie, Brian, & anyone else that helped
me in my moment of weakness. It is people like you that make this world worth
staying in. My friend Ken Liff co-piloted Postalpony half way across Maryland, then
the fun began---The old man took over & let the string out, we had fun with the fast movers, as
they did double takes at this upstart Pinto  There was this 50mph long sweeper that
we entered above 75mph I just set the car & let it run,we came out the side,& Ken
made the comment --"This is like a slot car on a rail, no body roll at all."  Ken wheels
a very nice '88 turbo coupe he bought new that now has 250,000 miles & it still kicks it!
I have rested up after I got home & I feel fine.   Again thanks for your concern & all
the attention, I won't forget!!

Dick,
I'm glad you are feeling better and that I could help.  You gave us a bit of a scare.  The best part was driving back from the UFO tent.  I got caught behind the honey wagon and was stopped in the mustang section for about 10 or 15 minutes.  It was poetic justice that after they all gave me the hairy eyeball, a Pinto turned out to be the president's celebrity pick.

It sounds like your ride home was more fun than ours.  We hit some rain and tried to conserve fuel.

Until next year.....
Connie
