Title: All Fords Show in PA 2006
Post by: Scott Hamilton on May 16, 2005, 11:53:22 PM
Most of us attending the Meet in Pigeon Forge agreed that the All Fords Show in PA would be a good venue for next years meet. We even went so far as to decide we were going to purchase a tent at this event & get a PCCA/FordPinto.com banner made.

What I failed to do was to ASK the pinto community at large to see if this would be a good choice..

Harley, you will need to post some good words here...

Vote, lets get this rolling for next year now,

I have made Paul, crazyhorse & Harley, pintoman, moderators of this board,

count me in, it gives me plenty of time to plan ahead, get passports for the boarder crossing (its coming) and make arrangemeants for transportation ect. Hopefully my motor will hold together this year so i don't have to "thrash" on it next spring! :-[

Maybe we could get a Canadian caravan of Pinto/Bobcats to head to Carlisle together incase there is vehicle problems on the way.... plenty of helping hands to fix unforseen issues.

While it would be good PR my 2 cents would to have it more west than more east than it was this year.  I just think that moving it back and forth from each side of the Mississippi each year would be a thought worth considering.  I know this probably doesn't hold much weight since I did not attend this year.

The carlisle idea sounds great to me.The All Ford Nationals is a well organized and run show. For any one that has been there before can tell you that grounds are huge and clean. That inclueds the rest rooms. They have excelent food you even can have breakfast there. For the parts hunters, there is a huge swap area. Can take a good two days to look through it.They actualy had some Pinto parts there last year.So my vote is for carlisle, and i'll try and get us a tent for the event.

Also the wives and kids have areas set up for them. The wives can get there nails and makeup done for free plus they have craft classes. The kids have an area setup so they can play.

Sounds like a great idea, plenty of time to make plans and close enough to drive the wagon. Other attractions in the area, for the non-car minded family members, include Hershey Park and the PA Amish
area. Count me in.

I'll do anything in my power to help arrange this. However, I'll have to wait untill "closer in" to see if I'll be able to attend. If I can help, PLEASE just ask.

I know depending on what kind of cash I got I'd be able to attend. I planned on going to Pigeon forge, but the car died, so no cash.. Was going to go to Carlisle, but no cash... too many bills..

Hello Group,
I feel that Pigeon Forge was the ideal spot for our meet.
Lots to do. More family oriented. I know the O.F.C. would rather have it in Carlisle. BUT I would leave my family behind if the meet were to be moved to Carlisle. I was there last year and it rained constantly.
I did not see that much for kids and the wife.
Not that I was disapointed in the Carlisle show. It is a great melting pot of Fords. Never before have I seen so many Mint condition Henry Ford products.
I will be there no mater where it it is in the U.S.A.
As for the west coast guys.you need to come up with a PLAN! or Get A Clue.
The Knoxberry Farms show is your Ford Pinto Nationals!
I would gladly attend a Las Vegas meet.

Damn, why is PA so far from California.  How long is the drive there?  Why don't y'all drive all the way out here to Knott's in April.  And we'll come out in June.  What do you think? Hmm?  ;)

We could try and have our meet some where in the mid west, maybe OKLA.If some one out there would be willing to get some information on locations,it might work.Having it there or some other state near there,we could have more Pinto's show up.It's just a thought.

Hey Guys,

Tenn. was great a great location.
Super time meeting other pinto enthusiast from across the USA and Canada.
Look forward to nx yr(my Pinto will be done).

PA is an excellent All Ford Show;  tons of parts & cars!

If Carlisle is nx yr's site you won't be disappointed;  but timing is essential-Motel reservations
need to be made several months in advance!!

Thanks to all who orginazided this yrs meet!!!!

I'll be going.  The Pinto might even be done by then.

Yeah right! MAYBE it will be running again.  :(

I've gone the past few years as a specator.  Good turn outs each time.  Lots of cars/trucks/others.  If you're from out of town and don't have a friend/family to stay with I suggest booking a hotel room now.  It gets crowded FAST.

If we can find a midwest area for our more western bretheren I'd be game to roll out that way too.  8-10 hours is about as far as I'll drive though.

Don't get me wrong, my car runs great but there's something about driving it across country that gives me the creaps. Maybe it's the cheap radio.

Carlisle would be awesome for me I live only 70 miles from there, and by next june hopefully will have a street ready v-8 wagon to tow the race car with!  The thing about early motel reservations is true,  Carlisle draws a HUGE crowd, when I lived there I used to flee to the mountains for the car show weekends, because the place gets to packed to do your normal routine weekend things when there is a show.  But it is a really cool setup, If you are looking for anything ford you can usually find it there.

I sure would like to go, especially now that I have my pinto restored (well I will have it on 6/15).  Pennsylvania is a long haul.  I vote for Tulsa, OK.  That's not too far.  I live in Shelton WA and a central location would be groovy.  I really like the idea of all the pintos travelling together that would be SO COOL!!  And it would also be very nice in case someone ran into problems.  I'll keep my eye on the strings.  At this point, not sure if I could go or not-lots of arrangements I would have to make in advance, but WOW it would be really neat!!

I still havn't heard back from carlisle. As soon as i hear from them i will let every one know. But if Pintony or some one else out in the midwest wants to set up something for next year, let us know and we might do the get together out there.Right now nothing is set in concrete, but most of the votes are for carlisle. For me i can go in any direction. My 80 Rallye is an exelent road car.Haven't had any problems asof yet.Made two 400 mile trips in the last month and still drive it dailey.

Would be way cool to try out Tulsa maybe in 2007?  If some of the local pinto toughs can look into it...I am happy to make some phone calls or do some other leg work. I have been to the Tulsa state fairgrounds and it seems like there are lots of camping areas surrounding it.  Maybe we could have it there?  Sure would be neat to have all of the west coast pinto's take the trip together and pick up everyone along the way.  That would be the coolest!  Boy would we all get some looks!!   If this is doable, I would be happy to start collecting names and phone #'s of all along the way that might want to "jump on the train" on the way to Tulsa.  If anyone has any ideas on this, please let me know.

Hey sagesunrisetha t sounds like a good idea.I say we have at Carlisle in 2006 then we can have it in Tulsa in 2007.As soon as i hear from Carlisle i'll get that information to everybody.I'm hoping to get at least 25 cars at     carlisle next year.Any one that plans on attending next year needs to pre regester so Carlisle know's how many will be attending and we can get an area set up just for us.You don't have to pre regester but it will be $10 cheeper than at the gate. Also like 68 cyclone said, you need to reserve a aroom or rooms as soon as  possible, because it gets real packed at the nationals.Ther e is a new Best Western in town that might have more rooms available that weekend.

I heard back from Carlisle event manager. They can't give any details for the 2006 show until this fall. From what the survey shows Carlisle is a go.Hey Scott need a little input on this.I do believe that i have there attention about Pinto's and Bobcats. With that in mind i think we can actually have at least 25 to 30 Pintos and Bobcats at next years show. What we really need is to have 1700 plus cars there to make a statement that Pintos and Bobcats do count. This would probably be only time that many Pintos and Bobcats would  ever be together since leaving the factory.A lot of wishfull thinking on my part. But it would be nice.

Harley,

Great, let me know closer to the fall what we need to put together to get everything going.
1700 Pinto would be a great showing but as many years as Tony, Brad, Greg, Jeff & I have been a part of the "Pinto Movement on the net I have never seen that much intrest 'SUSTAINED' at any given time.

Realistically, based on my convictions, we should shoot for 30-35...

I will put in every effort to support your's & everyone's goals as defined with this site for the Car Show...

1700? wow would that not be incredible?

You have to pay extra for camping at Carlisle now if your in the show field I believe. Check there site.www.carsa tcarlisle.com. They got you coming & going. But it is a great run show. Lots to see. I've been to ever Ford show & all the Spring & Fall shows since the mid 70's. This year with my Pinto Cruiser & all the other Ford shows with my old Boss 302. Old as in sold it. It would be a great place to have a Pinto gathering. (PARTY)

Grettings friends,

I and my son were driving across country and stopped and met the fellows in Pigeon Forge. It was awesome. I now have an enclosed trailer and just finished a trip to Dearborn to the Henry Ford Motor Muster car show. I was one of two feature cars looking for interest in 1974-1976 cars. This was the 20th year for this show in Greenfield Village, approx. 600 cars and I was the first Pinto they have ever seen! My baby is light on her feet now (has a nice home in a new trailer) and we will be hitting the road more now.

I have seen some interest about a midwest show and a few mentions of Tulsa. I live in Tulsa and will do all I can to help organize anything I can for you guys and gals. Are you interested in an all-Ford meet, as is Carlisle? We have one the first weekend in June. We also have a 1200 car show in February, probably too early in the year for most to travel. Are you interested in just FordPinto.com members getting together? Maybe we can explore the local Ford dealerships sponsoring something. Let me know what you think.

I vote for June-August for a 2007 show because in Feb, it is just to slippery of a drive (unless you are in the snow pinto!!) and I will be driving, not hauling, my baby to Tulsa if we can set up a show there. We sure have a lot of members. I think it would be darn cool to put together an all pinto show. How about the rest of the gang? Looking forward to the trip from Washington State! Guys/Gals...can you imagine if we could get 500 or even 1000 pintos together in Tulsa? I think we can do it! Already coming up on 1800 members!

I am in St Louis about 7 hours from Tulsa, You could count on me to bring my 73 as long as I have enough lead time. For those of  you lucky enough to live out west or up in cool Washington state just a word of warning Tulsa in the summer will be HOT and STICKY. Should be neat to get a bunch of Pintos and maybe even a few Bobcats together.

I can be in Tulsa in 07.Just need info and times. An all Ford meet or all Pinto meet will be fine.I'm still working on the Carlisle meet, should have some info this fall.Yes 1000 Pinto's in one place would rock. The locals wouldn't know what hit them with that many Pinto's.

I'm about 2-3 Hrs from Tulsa, in Springfield Missouri. Every year about may we have a LOT of hot rods in for some kind of show. Every hotel in the city is booked at that time. Never seen any pintos by i may drive thru there with mine next year, and ill definantly go to a pinto meet if its in tulsa or somewhere withinn 5-6 hours of me....maybe even further than that :) Ill try and keep up with what goes on and let you all know more :) By the way.....my pinto isnt exactly show quality, but its not a huge rust bucket either...there s not just a whole lot of rust on it... thatd be okay to bring to a pinto meet wouldnt it? it does still have its originaly shiney copper paint, interior is kinda rough, especially the carpet, its gone on the drivers side front and rear....becaus e there are a bunch of little rust thru holes on the floor pan (can be fixed with a new floorpan). :)

Hi Folks:

Here’s my two cents on the subject.

I think Branson Missouri (www.branson-missouri.com) would be a great place for one of our annual meetings for the following reasons:

1)  Middle of the country so both east and west folks can get here.
2)  Branson is a great place to bring the family.
3)  Have the meeting in early May and the weather is beautiful.
4)  There are near-by lakes.
5)  There is Silver Dollar City for the kids.
6)  There are many outlet malls for the spouses.
7)  Over 350 restaurants.
8)  Over 40 theaters.
9)  Campgrounds and RV parks.
10) Close to Springfield, MO where Bass Pro Shop is located.

I have no problem with Branson, go there every year. You are right about it catering to everyone's needs. Any of the places we've mentioned in the midwest like Tulsa, Branson, St. Louis are centrally located in the US. If anybody was going to commit to a midwest gathering, any of these places would work well. We have plenty of time to plan. Great idea!

Branson,

I like that idea....

My boss has been trying to get me to go there for 3 years now, he goes every year for a week vacation & loves it.

As much as I think the All Fords Show would be FANTASTIC, are we ready yet? Do we have the participation yet & the quality & quantity of cars to make a GOOD showing at this venue?

Would it be wise to 'build' on our successes & approach the ford show when our group is ready?

Not that I'm 'dissing' our current plan, I'm just a little re-Focused...

Comments?

Well I am new to all of this but not new to the pinto love. I personally don't have a problem with participation of all pinto's restored or not. I think it would be neat to see them all together and to mingle all together. I would think the show might not just be for show to the public, but show to each other so we can see each other's pinto's in different stages of being fixed/driven/raced, etc. There is something unique about every pinto whether it is rusty or not. Just my opinion. ;)

The other good thing, Scott, about having all pintos in all condition at the show is that we can get ideas from one another on how we want to make our pintos. For example, I want to put on a different air cleaner cover and would like to see what others use. I think all of us can appreciate a pinto, whatever condition it is in. They ALL make me smile!  :D
Title: Re: All Fords Show in PA
Post by: pintoman on July 10, 2005, 09:13:51 AM
The nice thing about most all Ford shows is any Ford in any condition would be welcomed to the show.Yes most of the cars that attend are nearly perfect. At the All Ford Nationals at Carlisle there were hundreds of Ford's that were so so.But that didn't matter, people were still looking at them.I go to shows and look at all the cars because you just might find an idea that you might want to use on your ride.If most every one wants to do the second annual get together next year somewhere else that would be fine by me.We still have time to get organized,i will still work on the Carlisle event until i hear otherwise. What s important is as a group that we agree on where to meet.I like the Carlisle idea and the Branson idea.So every one let us know where to hold our next event.

I think the Branson idea would work for me. Pretty much the same driving distance, just more East than South. A long trip, but would be a nice vacation and what better way to spend it than surrounded by my favorite cars in the world!

I don't think the Branson idea ever came up to replace Carlisle in 2006. Someone once metioned St. Louis, Tulsa, somewhere in the midwest for 2007. Then Branson was suggested because of its diverse interests and attractions. I believe it is the consensus of the club for Carlisle in 2006, but we can do both for those hwo can't travel so far east. How about one of those votey thingies Scott? What's the gut feel out there for the big 2006 meet?

PS. Hey Scott, since I know you are watching this post, will you personal message me about a Pinto Registry? I have such a passion to get a registry going. How about this idea?

2006 - Carlisle, PA - East U.S.

Sounds like we are in agreement here, for at least those who have replied. I really like the idea of rotating east, central and west as an annual meet. I also like the idea of us getting together as a group for the benefit of the group. I know we could spend days talking about our own projects and share a wealth of information.

If I may I would vote for Tulsa in 2007 but could get to Branson, Its a good place. I really like the idea of a great gettogether in the midwest. I have been getting flashes of giving up on my wagon but this has got me thinking I might not,

For a western show site I would vote for Lake Tahoe in the summer.  Being a  little bit more north would
hopefully pull in some  folks from the Northwest.

How about this idea?

Rotating the show sounds like a KILLER idea. I may not make the central & western meets as my Lil' Horse doesn't really like the freeway. I will, however do my level BEST to attend the eastern events.

I once drove my '80 runabout to Mich from Tenn, My wife was 6-7 mo pregnant & that was an ADVENTURE! The valve cover leaked pretty bad & I'd almost literally fill up the oil & top up the gas. My '74 isn't quite as bad, but it DOES leak a little around the valve cover. (add to that a hairline crack at the trans line in the case) I wouldn't be afraid to take it cross country, but I'd need a few days to get anywhere. I know it'd make it in one piece though.

OK then, the Pinto community has spoken...

Cool!

I for one will be scouring the swap meet area of the Ford Show for NOS Pinto parts, CAN'T WAIT!

Harley, let me know closer to the time how much for our own area & I wil get to work on the FordPinto.com/ PCCA banner... & let me know what else our site can do to help,

Something that I thought about today was having some sort of a printable flyer describing the site. We could print out a few whenever we are going to a car show, or some other automotive function. This flyer could have the logo and web address. Just a thought.

Hey Scott, I may be wrong but I think someone told me that Carlisle supplies a canopy for clubs that go there & maybe a banner also. You may want to check that out with them.

Yes they do supply a tent, but the first year it will cost a member of this club $150 to rent the tent.If the club has more than 25 cars at the event that member get,s there money back. Then it,s free after that at there following shows.Hey Scott I'll need all the help i can get.Kooter and his friends in Carlisle said that they would help.I won't know anything about Carlisle until there season is over with.As soon as i know something I'll let every one know.

Well the trip to Carlisle is sounding better each time I read this post. What is it, 3500 miles or so from Olympia, WA? That's not too bad. I know the pinto would hold up, just wish it had air conditioning. She really likes freeway cruising best. I have never been past Oklahoma and would like to see other states in the US before I kick the bucket. Just curious if any other Westerners are thinking they might make the trip and we could do it together. I would really like to attend each yearly pinto gathering.

So for Carlisle...do we have an estimated date/month yet? I too would rather "pitch a tent" (sorry fella's, girls love pintos too!) next to my pinto at the show instead of renting a motel.

And a comment on the Branson idea, maybe have it in early/late Spring as to avoid the other big car show that takes place in Branson in June?

It is probably a little less than 3500 miles. However you would be pretty close. There is a lot of open space between you and Carlisle as well as some toll roads. Don't forget the humidity. You will get pretty hot in a tent in the summer, since you are from Washington state where it is usually cool, you may want to rethink the tent part. Driving your Pinto would be neat but you would need to allow extra time when you stop to eat or gas up because everyone will want to talk to you. The further east you go people will be asking about the Washington plates and the long drive in an old car. It would be fun and interesting at the same time.

This is for you SAGESUNRISE.Th e Carlisle show is the first weekend in June of each year.I don't believe that you can pitch a tent by your Pinto, but i do believe that there is camping up on the hill. The show grounds is one of the best that i have seen. There are showers there, the rest rooms are very clean.Plus the food there is excellent. You can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the grounds. For me i will be in a motel room for the event. And like Scott I'll be at the swap area most of the time.

Boy, I don't know then....I can't leave my Martha Splatterhead alone at night. I have to sleep with her. So you don't have to leave your car on the showgrounds the entire time, right?

Yea, I'll bet it is humid and having a wool blanket forever on my head (I have EXTREMELY long hair) won't help any. But I could tough it out for a few nights even if I have to wear an ice cold one under each armpit and one on the back of my neck!

So can you elaborate on the toll roads? Are there a lot? How much is the toll? I'll bet there will be a lot of surprises that I am not used to. I live deep in the woods in hicksville!  :D

Hello sagesunrise,
The toll on Turnpike 70-76 from just after Weeling W.V. is $8.50. 76 ends at Carlisle.
I'm thinking we should find a house to rent for the week!!!??? Time-share type deal???
Just went searching for hotels the closest hotel that has rooms NOW is Harrisburg west.
The rooms are 42.00 pr night. I was searching on Hotwire.com
No rooms available the first W/E in june in Carlisle Pa.

Does the car show run for one full week? Sun-Sat, Mon-Fri? I was thinking of taking 2 weeks off, but if the show is one full week, I might need 3 (I want to give myself one full week of drive time in case something goes wrong and because I want to do a little sight-seeing). I think a home to rent is a good idea. I'd kick down $100 for a week even if I have to sleep outside or in a barn. Would be way cool if someone in the area had a farm and we all could kick it for the week at their place. 8)

I liked the Pigeon Forge thing because we were not just the Pinto's at the show.....We were the show. I liked the Pigeon Forge location because it was quaint. Are we really established as a bonified organization untill we can count on 100 Pintos being there....or even 50. How can we escape the conventionalli ty of just being another group of car enthusiasts?
I suggest an invasion....we could pick a different city each year and cruise the streets and park in different areas and meet to party and talk. It might spark anticipation and noteriety.
Also, I suggest that the best way to nuture this band of specialist would be a centralized meeting place which could be calculated mathmatically and then go with the closest commonly know city from that point.
Personally, I am going to make every effort to be at the second Pinto meet where-ever it is at. ThunderPinto is being built for crosscountry.
OK!!.........That is what I think......... High_Horse    Wichita,Kansas-which is about as middle as you can get.

High Horse, that is why I am seriously going to try to be there next year. I want to make a statement all the way across the US! I hope others will join me so we can all travel together. I love cruising in my pinter, and boy, if I was a dude, I'd have lots of chicks! The pinter really is a chick magnet!! I get more chicks commenting on my pinto than fellers, although lots of fellers like to talk pinto with me as well.

I really would like to make the trip with other members, so if anyone is even thinking about it, please get ahold of me. My email is sagesun@hctc.com. I will most likely go through ID, MT, WY and South of the Dakotas and then straight East to PA. The earlier we plan, the funner the trip will be.  8)

pigion forge is the best, the goodguys and the f 100 shows do well there.  Its a great place for kids and the hotels dont try to rape ya for rooms.  So I guess ill wait and come to one when its down south, heres a thought why not do like many of the other minority clubs do go to Food Lion Auto fair in Charlotte NC.  Both the fiero and corvair clubs meet there each year.  Its fun they have many cruise events each night with over 2000 cars and 300,000 in attendance i would say its a great show.   ;D

Yes P/F is a great place to have a car show.I really enjoyed this year's show in P/F.I just wish we had a better turn out.Twelve cars for the first year wasn't bad for the first show.We decided at that show to go to Carlisle for next year.Per-hap's we might end up back in P/F for a future show, but for now we will move it around the country and hope every one can attend one of the these shows.Myself I'm am planning on going to every show we have.I think different locations is a great idea.

I am starting my plans on attending the Carlisle show in June 2006. I am really hoping that others might want to join the trek across country. We will be doing some sight seeing along the way and will most likely leave 2 weeks before the show starts.

We are planning on crossing the Northern tip of Idaho and crossing into Montana, headed Southerly. Crossing Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio and into PA.

If anyone wants to meet or come along, please let me know. We have plenty of time to find a meeting spot.

Hey Sagesunrise I'm glad to see that you are coming to Carlisle next year.I hope a bunch more Pinto owners will join you on your trek. When you come through Ohio maybe i can meet up with you then we can head for Carlisle.I hope there will be 6 or 7 Pinto owners out of Columbus heading that way.We usually leave on Thursday morning.I belong to a local Ford club here in Columbus and we have about 8 members with Pinto's.So now we have a club within a club.See you next year.
