9 inch rear end

A nine inch rear end off of an 80's truck would fit a 76 pinto without too much trouble wouldnt it?  I'm starting to look for stuff for my pinto, cause i'm getting the stock engine re-built for now, and am in the process of looking for a 302, 9 inch rear end, and a c4, possibly c6 tranny.  I'm still in high school, so i'm gonna be getting these things one at a time, then installing them all at once.  But i'm planning on buying used for the most part and rebuilding them, and putting in new gearsm and better stuff on them.

Andy; I'm not so sure an 80s truck rear will have the right width; however a rear from a 65 or 66 mustang will just about bolt right in. Also the later pinto's (mostly wagons) & the mustang II came with an 8"with the correct width. Their are several gear ratios for these. Good luck!!!  ;)

Don't use a C6 unless you like to cut metal with fire (torch out firewall and trans tunnel) The C4 or C5 will handle all you can throw at it if its built right and they weigh alot less!  Here is a picture of by buddies car with a 351w and a C6.....notice the firewall moved back, and you can't see it but the trans tunnel had to be cut out and made larger.  Big pain in the butt!    Jeff

thanks for the tip.  the engine i'm looking at is about a 440 hp 302.  so i wanna get something that can handle the power, and also is practicle to drive daily, and also a weekend warrior.

Ok, I guess I will answer this question. Get a 9" out of a 59 Ford wagon and it will bolt right in. It is only 1/2 wider than stock. Other than that you will need to shorten the housing and axles on any other year.
