77 Wagon 302/C4 Conversion Part II
« on: February 25, 2005, 01:37:13 PM »
I have breeched another hurdle in my quest for a 302 powered Pinto. This being the carryout pipes. As I am in fitup and moving this car would be a hassle, I needed to get to the pipe bender guy as accurite a sample of the pipes I needed without literally casting a plaster of paris mold( of course a cast of Paris would not do my pipe any harm). So I used 1/2 inch emt conduit and along with my emt bender proceeded to bend up some samples. When I felt that I was in the ballpark, I needed some girth(this is like mirth but not as funny unless you are out with Paris) so I made up some disks using styrofoan insulation. 2 inches O.D. and 1/2 inch I.D. then slipped them onto the conduit. Although this provided me with some excellant results, the tube guy could only get his flairing tool so close to a bend which required me to saw off the flairs he made and use my hammer in conjunction with a piece of 2 by 4 in a vice with a 2 inch hole drilled in it because my pipes were still just a bit to far rearward. This system will allow me to pull them out with the engine/trans arrangement and put them back in as well. From the trans cross member mount back they will be disconnectable .
Started with a Bobcat wagon. Then a Cruising wagon. Now a Chocolate brown 77 wagon. I will enjoy this car for a long time. I'm in. High_Horse
