looks like SMS only goes up to 1975. Would the colors be the same for the later models?

winsor351 - google sms auto fabrics - you will have to match your material and have a local reupholster them for you. no place to buy nos/repop covers for pintos

My '74 Runabout
« on: September 07, 2003, 07:48:09 PM »
here's my lil' Horse , She's a '74 Runabout with 79,000mi. The engine's been rebuilt after about 10yrs under a tree. The trans is a fav of you guys' a C4 out of a Turbo Cougar. I have Big plans for this car. She's mechanically perfect (as far as stock goes :oP) I intend to try to replicate the "Spectraflame" paint from the Hot Wheels line in the 70's. along with this goes black 17" 5 spoke wheels, a redline around the rim, and polished spokes. I've bought SEVERAL yards of brown, and tan "Ultrasuede" for the interior. As the interior gets done I'll post pics on this thread for y'all. (BTW the inside looks like a wildcat was turned loose in it LOL)

Here's some pics of the NX2000 seats i installed today along with the originals (think they needed replacing?) The Nissan seats were fairly easy to install the front mounts needed to be bent flat and the outer rears trimmed slightly to clear the seatbelts. i lined up the inside front with the factory holes in the floor, then drilled new ones for the other 3. they cleared all the structure and fuel lines so i call that a bolt in LOL

AHHH diggin' up bones!

If all goes well when my uncle sam comes in, I'll be getting a new "daily driver" so my Pinto becomes my "toy". If you've read the above... just delete it from your mind.
This will be a slow go as I don't have wads of cash to toss around. I intend to build the 2300 for roughly 130-140HP. Gonna firm up the suspension with some nice KYB's & hopefully, if I can lay my grimy mitts on it, a rear sway bar. An 8" rear with posi is on the "wish list" but not quite a given. I think the stocker SHOULD live with the modest increase in HP. As for bodywork, I'll be doing a fair amount of rust repair. None of it is terminal, but it needs looking after, and SOON. I'll be keeping the 14"x6" wheels on the car & looking for a fifth. I like how my car rides & drives, I just wanna "Kick It Up A Notch"

It was pretty srtaight forward. I made a base from a thin piece of sheetmetal. I cut the dash pad & steel support with my trusty jig saw. then I trimmed back the padding so I could weld in my new base form. Once I out out the padding fire, I didn't trim enough padding, I sprayed a piece of cardboard bent to conform to the desired contours with silicone lube. I sprayed on some "Great Stuff" expanding foam, then quickly duct taped my cardboard form down to keep it in the general shape I needed. After an hour or so I pulled the form. After trimming with a large sharp knife, I covered the pad with quilt batting then some cloth. All stuck down with 3M spray glue. For the Guage panel I cut & bent another piece of thin sheetmetal to screw to my metal base form. Then cut the holes for the guages. I had to cut 2 or 3 ribs off the dash structure itself to clear the guages. I left room for a fuel guage at some point, so I can put a tach where the fuel guage is now. You can use the Great Stuff method to repair those canyon sized cracks in your dash pad as well.
