looks like SMS only goes up to 1975. Would the colors be the same for the later models?

winsor351 - google sms auto fabrics - you will have to match your material and have a local reupholster them for you. no place to buy nos/repop covers for pintos

Dave's 'NEW' 1979 Sedan
« on: December 28, 2006, 06:49:45 PM »
Pinto enthusiasts,

I finally shot a few pics of my new '79 Sedan. I think I will name her Jade, for her color. This car has 423 original miles on it. If you ever bought a Pinto new in the day, you know what they sound like, feel like, ride like and smell like. The story as I know it is that the original purchaser of this car died the day following delivery and it sat in a garage under a car cover for 26 years. A couple guys made some good money on it, and now it is part of my collection. Geraldine has a sister!

1976 Runabout, project.
1979 Sedan, 'Jade', 429 miles, show car, really needs to be in a museum. I am building him one!
1979 Runabout, light blue, 39,000 miles, daily driver.

Thanks guys. I bought another 79 Runabout just a few weeks before I bought Jade. It came from Minnesota and has some cancer along the bottom. Other than that, it is a pretty sweet light blue 37,000 mile car. I had to replace the rag joint and just got finished installing a new fuel pump. Been driving over the holidays, and man i just gotta say....what a treat it is to drive a Pinto as a daily driver! This blue Runabout is just a daily driver/beater, but I feel like a million bucks in it. It is amazing the things that come back to me from driving them in the day, like when you park it in a parking lot and return, I find myself glancing under the front end to see what leaked! Now THAT brings back memories. I got caught in the rain this evening, switched on the wipers, they worked!, and even got some squirt from the washer!

I was telling a few guys last night in CHAT, in the day, I HAD to drive Pinto's because they were cheap to own and maintain. Today I CHOOSE to drive them...and with pride!

Dave,

She is a thing of beauty.  What a find.

By the way, that puddle under the car was usually the radiator overflow dripping from that tube on the side of the radiator, just like it was designed to do...

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only reason Ford stopped selling Pintos is because they stopped making them.

Thanks Frank. I hope to get it up on some ramps soon and take some pics. Gotta find something to treat the surface rust on the raw steel. Would like to see what folks know of that heat shield around the muffler. Nice to meet you and your dear wife this afternoon.

Straighten up boys....well, that doesn't help much either, does it? Too funny Frank...and if by chance it lasts for more than 4 hours, who in their right mind is going to call a doctor! Holy cow!

Tony...back to topic, I was looking for something to treat surface rust with that would stop the rust, but not something that is like paint. Bare untreated metal has surface rust, like unpainted suspension parts. I don't want to use anything that is going to leave a waxy film either. I came across some stuff called Fluid Film, looks promising.
