77 PINTO hatchback drag car
« on: December 04, 2010, 06:28:39 PM »
I bought this 77 V8 PINTO to put together but ran in to technical difficulties. Im not used to ford combinations. My problem was mating a manual valve body c4 to a 3500 stall converter that the housing was origanally from a ford 200 6cylinder automatic.I need a flex plate with that bolt pattern that will bolt up to an 80 lincoln 302 engine. I have been patient but I have not ran across any racers that know how to remedy this without starting over and spending lots of cash. Any help would be apppreciated. Terry 580 307 4788. This car could be for sale. $1200 roller

Sounds like you need a V8 bellhousing and flexplate.

I have v8 bellhousings and flex plates. I need to adapt the 200 6 cylinder converter to my engine with a flex plate and block spacer plate dust cover thingy that will allow me to bolt up my starter. Its like I need a 6cylinder bellhousing and spacer that will bolt up to a 302. Is there any such animal? Would one from a v6 work? OHHHHHHHH what to do ?  Help if you know someone that would know. Thanks Terry/ 64mod

A 200 six cylinder is a straight six, and as far as I can recall, it uses the same belhousing as a small block V8.

The V6 engines have a different bellhousing.
Have you already tried to mate the convertor to a V8 flexplate??
If Im not mistaken (which is a possibility!!), the 6 cylinder convertor may have its mounting bolt pattern in a smaller diameter than a V8 style, so it would only be a matter of drilling the extra holes in the V8 flexplate.
The V8 bellhousing and block plate will work as is.

I do have v8 bellhousings and flex plates. The flexplates are not flat or I would redrill them. There is a bead or step right where they need to be drilled. Thanks 64mod.

Well, if thats the case, I would just get a V8 type of convertor so everything just goes together.
